How "Godzilla vs. Kong" Will Go Down. · 8:36pm Apr 24th, 2020
Godzilla: You actually think you can take me on? Oh, all this time I thought it was a joke! (to the other Titans) Hey, guys, look! The monkey thinks he can fight me!
Kong: You're mocking me, aren't you?
Godzilla: Oh no no no, I'm sorry, it's just KONG LOOK A BLONDE!!!
Kong: WHERE?! đ
Godzilla:
I often couldnât help but note that youâre quite a fanatic for Godzilla.
How did that happen, exactly? And what is it about the character you like so much?
Actually, it was more like...
Note to self: Kong despises being mocked, especially if itâs from Godzilla.

I'd heard about him in passing a few times in my youth, but it really started in middle school. One of my friends was big into monster and horror movies, and he let me borrow one film from his Godzilla collection called Destroy All Monsters.
I absolutely loved it. It was my first big awakening to the fact that Godzilla is something more than a giant fire breathing lizard. The fact that it had pretty much every kaiju ever made up until the time of it's release (1968) made it even better. So that was what hooked me.
Then the 2014 American movie came out, and that was when I decided I really, really loved the Big G. :)
As for why I like him, well...he's a radioactive dinosaur that can shoot atomic heat rays and has gone toe-to-toe with fellow mutants, divine moth guardians, space aliens, and even the Avengers in one comic. What's not to love?
But more importantly, I found myself impressed with just how deep the franchise can get. The original 1954 film drew heavy inspiration from the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and boy does it show. It might be the grimmest monster movie of the 1950s, and Godzilla's had those nuclear undertones for his entire 65+ year existence. And there are other topics covered as well; corporate greed, Cold War tensions, environmental protection...a film I watched recently had a theme of Japan forgetting or ignoring the mistakes of its past.
Godzilla makes for great monster mash entertainment, but there's a lot of thought that goes into it as well.

I was trying to poke fun at the fact that all of Kong's human love interests have been blondes.

I know. This is hilarious when you mentioned how Kong was killed off in every movie, except Kong: Skull Island.
