Discord's magic · 12:11am Mar 27th, 2020
Ok, so I know that some people, including me, wonder why it is that when Tirek absorbed Discord's magic, he barely grew despite how powerful Discord is. I have two theories about that.
The first one is that Discord's "mana pool" is constantly changing due to his chaotic nature, so at one moment it could be big enough to move an entire galaxy, at other times it is so small it couldn't lift a pebble. Tirek happened to absorb Discord's magic while he had a considerably sized mana pool, and in doing so took away the mana pools ability to change its size.
My second theory is that his powers don't require magic at all, and instead circumvent the need for a source of magical energy to fuel it, but he does need at least a little bit of magic to access those abilities.
Let me know what you think down below!
The second option makes more sense to me. Discord isn't a regular being like the Alicorns or Tirek are, even if they turn out to be immortal. He's a spirit. He has an antire dimension to himself. Maybe he's so powerful because his spells tap into something different, not an internal well like ponies do or stolen power like Chrysalis and Tirek. Furthermore, Discord-as-Grogar clearly could give a fraction of magic to Tirek, who grew considerably from it, suggesting it wasn't actually Discord's own but a fragment of this other power source compressed into pure magic.
So yeah, maybe Tirek stole whatever inherent magic Discord needs to draw on Chaos; after all, he didn't begin to fade away as he did when he tried to be non-chaotic.
