Sonic the Hedgehog [GOOD] · 2:22am Feb 17th, 2020
...holy crap it was good. I was a legitimately good movie. I mean, not even a "so bad it's good" movie, it was actually a good movie. I was laughing throughout the whole thing at the comedy, the chemistry between our main leads was great, and Jim Carrey absolutely nailed Robotnik. I am actually recommending seeing it. Maybe it's just because I didn't have much in the way of expectations, but...yeah, no. It was great.
That's awesome! I really wanna see the movie.
Thank God they changed the CGI main character. That original test footage was... disturbing.
Saw it yesterday and couldn't agree more. While it is kind of a predictable film in regards to it's plot, it makes up for it with good humor, likable characters who have great chemistry with each other, and Jim Carrey just having a blast with playing Robotnik. I'm not even much of a Sonic fan and I was entertained.
Huh. That's multiple people who have genuinely enjoyed it. I may just have to see this for myself.
Yep, I must agree. There were a couple jokes I despised, but they were in-character so I gave them a pass on those. Otherwise, the movie was solid, and my bit of distaste was very subjective.
It's at least a 7/10. Well above average, and certainly better than most movies with the CG character from another dimension formula.
YEAH, I just saw this with my niece and nephews, and i was pleasantly surprised.
Some of the movie was a little TOO zany, but over all...This movie will go down in history as the
FIRST HONEST TO GLOB GOOD VIDEO GAME MOVIE, without it being terrigood.
I especially loved how in the End Jim Carey REALLY went all out with his Egg Man Voice.
I had the same reaction - went in steeled for a trainwreck, actually ended up finding the movie surprisingly enjoyable. Overall I think it worked because of good writing - the characters were not, for the most part, actively stupid, and the movie wasn't trying to convince us to like them but allowed them to shine on their own merits. It feels like the kind of low-stakes Sonic movie they would have made in the 1990s.
It doesn't surprise me that Jim Carrey was good as Robotnik.
I'm planning on seeing it this Tuesday.

it was a plot all along! A marketing strategy! An inside job!
That mustache is woefully insufficient for someone who is supposed to be the egg man and therefore also the walrus, but I guess being a live-action character puts limits on even ol' Jim.

To say nothing of video game movies or the Sonic franchise of the past decade.... and a half, actually, because '06 was 13 years ago.

Don't forget Detective Pikachu. And before that there was Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, which I will plug until the day I die.

He eventually gets the crazy stache from what I've seen in preview pics.

He gets it eventually, don't worry.
Thanks for the review, it convinced me to see it, and I really enjoyed it.
