    I'm (still) not quite dead...

I'm sorry, I am so very sorry for the lack of updates on, well, anything. A few of you have probably noticed that I've still been putting in the occasional appearance or comment, but as for chapter updates...yeah I've barely written anything for months for various reasons - work sucks, arranging a couple vacations, a falling out in my D&D group of 14 years, and just a sort of malaise that

    When you're writing a chapter...

And listening to music to keep yourself in the mood, and then you hear a song that has you suddenly realize that you've been writing the entire chapter wrong and should have instead been basing it around the song - not necessarily using the song directly (especially since that would be against site rules concerning wholesale copying of lyrics), but certainly drawing on it for inspiration.

The Good News and the Bad News

The good news is that I got a root canal on Monday. No more pain in teeth. Yay!

The bad news is that I was 3/4ths of the way through the next chapter of Midnight Castle (~5000 words) and realized that I was writing it totally wrong. I need to go back to practically the start and change up a lot, though I'm salvaging lines and paragraphs wherever I can.

A Trip Through the Mirror · 2:16am Feb 9th, 2020

So while Cozy Glow's Tales of Revenge is in-continuity with Queen Chrysalis Reforms (Accidentally) and Trouble in Tiatarta, it isn't a "serious" entry in the series. I mean, then again, neither is (Accidentally), really, but the point is that Tales of Revenge was thrown together quickly just in case I didn't finish the story I actually wanted to work on for the Discovery contest.

However, I managed to get it done. A Trip Through the Mirror is an official part of the Reforms universe. Redemption universe? Tiatartaverse? I dunno, I'm still working on a name for it. Point being, it's the first of two stories intended to seriously develop Cozy Glow. It's also currently the earliest one, chronologically - meaning that no prior reading is necessary to enjoy it at all.

Enjoy! As a reminder, the planned chronological order for this universe is:

1) Cozy Glow: FIENDship is Magic
2) A Trip Through the Mirror
3) Queen Chrysalis Reforms (Accidentally)
4) Cozy Glow's Tales of Revenge
5) Trouble in Tiatarta
6) Trouble at Midnight Castle
7) The End is Never the End

I'm really excited for FIENDship is Magic! I have a feeling it's going to be awesome!

Could you put links here for all the stories that are already published? For future reference?

This is in my top 3 continuities.

The only reason I care about Cozy is because she's a one-dimensional psychopath that talks like a My Little Parody, but I'll check it out.

Oho ho? What's 6 and 7 about, I wonder....

...Hey, since you're already crafting a better future with this timeline, may I add my two cents?

Say, now I don't know if Cacophony's mirror is much different from the one(s) Starswirl made, nor if studying its magic could provide any insights and advancements in magical portal creation. Or, perhaps it's merely the happenstance of seeing a second mirror that sparks an idea in a certain purple alicorn's mind;

If Starswirl could create a gateway to connect two entirely different universes, and Twilight found a way to make that gateway permanent... nothing much stands in the way of creating a... "lesser" permanent gateway. One that doesn't connect different universes. Just two points in space.

Ponyville Castle and Canterlot Castle.

Her friends could visit literally for 15 minutes on a whim, or vice versa. Anytime. Daily. It'd be like she'd never left. :pinkiegasp:

...And once you have one pair of mirrors, it can be assumed that, eventually, you'll be able to make more, for others across the world to use to connect distant friends with each other. :derpytongue2:

Just an idea for a bit of background world building.

To be honest, the “once a month” thing in the epilogue didn’t bother me because they were only making sure that they would all get together at least once a month. Nothing is stopping Twilight from hanging out with her friends in ones or twos or threes - which is I’m sure how she hung out with them back in Ponyville anyway, I doubt she saw all five all at the same time every day.

Basically I don’t view it as catastrophically as other fans do.

The End is Never the End

There are no ends, only the point where you stop caring. Or, to put it even more pithily...

"The ends justify the means!"
"I don't believe in ends!"

(Also, holy crap my spellcheck actually recognized "pithily")

Well, I suppose I'm glad for you that at least this part of the ... "happy end" wasn't as traumatic for you as it was for me and others. :applejackunsure:

I believe you do have a real opportunity here though if you're already building a better universe.

It isn't even just that Twilight isn't allowed to see her friends. It's also that she isn't allowed to be part of Ponyville's daily shenanigans. Or interacting with her other acquaintances, e.g., Trixie.

I imagine I'm not the only one who still, desperately, needs healing. :ajsleepy:
