Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

Prereader verdict on new Midnight Rising chapter is in...

And unfortunately, that verdict is unanimous:

Complaints were: too meta, hard to follow, does nothing to advance the plot, and potentially makes things worse while trying to fix them.

And quite favorably by PaulAsaran, who previously reviewed Before the Storm: The Rise of Firefly:

I came away very happy with this one. The sexuality danced on the razor’s edge of appropriateness for the story’s needs but managed to always keep from slipping off the deep end. The characters she meets are all interesting in their own right, from card shark twins to a vicious head mare to a down-on-his-luck Phoenix Wright lookalike. I also feel the need to praise the cameos, which were sporadic enough and realistic enough to not feel like fan wankery and instead served real purpose to the overarching story (especially Cadance). This was an all-around fun ride with great themes of inclusion and healing, delightful characters, strong writing, and an impressive eye for quality in content, flow, and development.

Needless to say, read the whole thing and not just the excerpt. He's a very good critic who makes thoughtful and salient points. I'll give it up to this guy; he's a prolific writer, reader and reviewer, and better yet, he's got a taste for both long stories and even clop to a degree--two things that are right up my alley!

I imagine part of the reason you like it the most is because it’s closest to the kind of softer romantic clop you do. It’s unique in that regard for me, as I enjoy really cutting lose in M-rated stories and that one didn’t really allow for it. Or when I tried to make it that way for The Attorney chapters, it bit me pretty badly. That one’s on me.
