Ideas! TO MANY IDEAS!!! HEEEELP!!! · 7:20pm Jan 15th, 2020
As the title may suggest, I am having a bit of an idea overload, ehe.. 
I have a lot I want to get through with King: The Beginning, it is my favorite and proudest story on this site. And there is so much I wanna put in, I figured I share some of the planned things ahead, not spoilers, don't worry, but some the planned things I would like to introduce. 
Please share your thoughts, and if you had ideas on fun adventures Spero and the gang could have, please share, I always give credit to those contributing, and I would love to expand the lore with you all!! 
1: Royal Army Reform.
Having three regiments of guards can be a bit confusing, and if some of you thought it was a bit much, then I agree, but it is by intend. I plan on making a reformation of the Equestrian armed forces during Spero's foalhood. Not only to show the advancements in Equestria during that time, but it is also to inspire Spero to become the military commander he will one day be. Already have some planned out uniforms for them all, can't wait to get that art drawn up to show you all!!
2: Adventures!
A big part of this story is the political drama, as Spero is prince, and the future king, he is a key player, even if he doesn't fully realize that yet. Celestia wants to protect him, not shield him, but make sure he can enjoy a life with friends before he has to fully grow up and face the nobles head on. This means adventures and mischief with his new friends! So I am really looking forward to sending them out in the world and experience it!
3: Spero's father.
Will he be revealed in this story, yes he will. I had to really stop myself not giving out clues, and I have made them REALLY subtle, at least I think so. I won't confirm or deny anything you suggest, except for Blueblood. Spero wants to know who his father is, and of course that will play a bigger part as more chapters are released. Still working out on the perfect reveal, feel free to suggest any awesome way to reveal it.
4: Future spin off.
This is an idea I have played with in my head for some time. I want to make a small comedy story about recruits in training, this happens during the mentioned army reformation and we are going to follow a group of recruits through basic training. It is a way lighter story, without to much drama, and show another side to the world around Spero.
Anyway, that's it for now, just wanted to share some thoughts, and I look forward to releasing this latest chapter now that we finally are in his foalhood days. See ya!! 
1 - So long as you have a plan, stick to the plan. Only you can tell it the way you intend to. I know your readers may want things NOW or don't yet understand why you have decided to do a particular thing, that always happens, especially when you release one chapter at a time. A lot of speculation can end up happening causing people to develop their own head canons along the way. But, if you stick with your plan, at least you know why you took the path you did and can then explain it if needed.
2 - No ideas right now. Sorry.
3 - The forever mystery. Some will continue to guess, others will prefer to wait. I applaud you for fighting the urge to blurt out the clues too loudly.
4 - Fun when stories keep growing beyond the original plan. Have fun!
1. A royal army reform is really in the works, especially after both the changeling and Storm kings invasions where the army was almost completely incapacitated. I know you have plans but here are some ideas For army reform, First is a Pike and Shot like reform where Equestria adds basic guns into the army but still retain some melee weapons, finally when Spero is older you can go full musket armies. Also to bolster Equestrian numbers especially with a pretty pacifistic population Equestria needs to maximize whatever forces it can get so an allotment system like the one Sweden used with its Caroleans could work, a good half way system between full on conscription and relying on volunteers https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caroleans

I suggest that Spero meets his dad and several other ponies to keep us guessing. Speedo should Go on adventures with his dad and whatnot and so when he is revealed Spero is even more shocked as he knows his father
4. Spinoff sounds fun
Edit: for the Spinoff perhaps the cutey mark crusaders have joined the military and start to pull off hijinks there.

Well I am thinking going with a mix of 17th century and 18th century, and when the reforms are implemented it will be a full musket army. They have the technology, just no one has done it before.

It’s a good question, and there is a lot of ways for me to answer. I can however say it will be addressed in the story.
Spero will be a part of that when he grows up, but for now their forces are not as big as one might expect. I won’t reveal any number here.
This is for the army reformation.
aside from new weapons and armor, what about an entirely new unit? Luna has her night guards, Celestia has the royal guard and Spero has his own band of bodyguards BUT! the citizens have nobody to protect them. I'm thinking something similar to the musketeers of 17th century France who were made up of mostly the common folk.

A citizen guard, basically a reserve unit that is only called up in times of dire need and when its not called up acts as a special force of law enforcement

Keep in mind that not all of these need to be used for this story. I have a document sitting around somewhere full of all the ideas for stories I've ever come up with that I sometimes dig out for story inspiration.
Personally, I think Spero's father should NOT be Blueblood. I think he should an Earth Pony who once had a criminal past. But hey you do you.
