While it's still St. Patrick's day...

Don't know about you, but I've already chomped down on some corned beef and enjoyed a cold Guinness.

Carol of the Day: Dec 9th · 4:20pm Dec 9th, 2019

This little gem was written by American Folk singer Tom Paxton in 1962. Two versions of this song exist. The original doesn't give under what occasion, if any, the toy was given. Later versions turned the toy into a Christmas gift and some oldies stations would only play this song around Christmas time.

Today, we're listening to the Christmas version of "The Marvelous Toy" as performed by another notable folk singer, John Denver.

I recently rediscovered this song. As mentioned, it was a song I can recall hearing on my local oldies station during the holiday season. It was in putting this list together, that I sought it out again and finally got to learn a little about its history.

While there have been many recordings of it, it's difficult to tell which, exactly, was the one I listened to. Though the station did post on its website the names and artists of its playlist, the station has long since closed down. Though, given that I was living in Canada and this was a Canadian station, it was probably playing a cover by a Canadian artist.

All the same, it's a fun little song and one sure to be stuck in your head for a while.
