It's the Christmas Countdown! · 1:38am Dec 2nd, 2019
Hey, all!
Today marks the first of December and the First Sunday of Advent.
In, Christmas is just around the corner.
So, I thought I'd post a song everyday to get is into the season.
It also gives you a little look into kind the stuff I listen to (I'm sorry).
Today, we're looking at Wolves At The Gate and their cover of "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus".
I found this group by a happy accident. A few years ago, I found myself having it with every Christmas song played on the radio. To save my sanity, I began seeking alternative genres and lesser-known/sung songs.
I was familiar with Trans-siberian Orchestra, but wondered who else was out there. At the same time, I was also developing a taste for heavy metal.
Through a search for "heavy metal Christmas music", I came upon August Burns Red (more on this later). But, I was in the gate, and there was no going back.
Eventually I chanced upon a compilation album (Midnight Clear) which had featured August Burns Red and Wolves At The Gate. And the rest is history...
As to the song itself: in keeping with the theme of Advent, the first candle is to represent the first testament's waiting for Christ's first coming an our waiting for His second. This hymn aptly characterizes this concept.
