okay so I'm making progress on the next story now. · 2:56pm Oct 9th, 2019
This year has been bad. This summer was bad. My computer died, the heat was extremely high combined with the worst drought on record and wildfire smoke, I had to get work done on my house, I had to get a biopsy done(benign), there have been problems in the family major injuries as in my step father had all the tendons torn in one shoulder, and I found out the money I was going to use to pay off what I borrowed to get a computer up and running so I can write was delayed for weeks. That was basically this summer in a nutshell.
Now onto the news about the story.
I honestly have no idea what anybody will think of this story. None. It's going to be weird, and the weirdness has been boiling for like 5 years now. The idea was always "start with who needs the sunshine, introduce that one character, and use him to drag an entire fictional universe into the mix". Basically I'm writing the story I said you guys might not like, I'm dragging a sci-fi/fantasy fictional universe into the mix(no you haven't heard of it, I invented it myself, take that how you will) but keeping the focus firmly and directly on Equestria, character focused, and with a somewhat sympathetic antagonist(no that guy is not the antagonist in this case).
Basically what has happened is that I started watching Issac Arthur in the last couple years and thought "yeah that sounds like a good idea" and I decided that I hate standard fantasy settings. So there will be no orcs, no baseline standard fantasy classes, if it's a fantasy trope I probably won't be using it, certain things about the fictional universe have been designed in a specific way to shift things, and most "space opera" notions are not on the table, you can see some of this with the Riloks in "the Fermi Object" but that has a long ways to go with unfolding and they're more pure sci-fi in that story.
Basically what I'm saying is that the next story I'm going to release is going to be weird and you may not be happy with it, I'm not even sure if I consider it a direct sequel to "The Last Changeling Queen" it has been what I'm working towards for two maybe even three stories now but everything about it is different. If you aren't happy with that story I do have some good news for you though, that's not the only sequel to "The Last Changeling Queen" coming out, the second one happens as an in-between thing, more slice of life, expanding upon things I set down in that story, so Twilight's relationship, DT, Changelings in Equestria. But I have to get this current story started, I checked my notes folder for it and I have 43 files worth of notes saved up about it, a lot of which I had to throw away since it's been cooking for that long at this point and they're outdated.
I relate to Ross Scott talking about this fictional universe, yes I need to eat, yes I need to have a house but working on this is my main priority to quote him directly "like if I've eaten I'd rather make the movie, but if I haven't eaten..."(replace movie with story/fictional universe/whatever). The main time investment in all this is putting all this together, sure you can write a fantasy story and throw out even things as baseline as "a warrior with a sword and shield" but you have to replace that with something else and it can't be a guy who uses a shield shaped piece of wood and an axe with a weird class name taped on. And you can write a Sci-Fi story throwing any notion that an empire of millions of worlds is even all that big, but you have to deal with a massive scale issue for everything, you can't say, write a story about somebody growing old and frail because people will be biologically immortal past a certain point.
So I'm getting organized, de-stressed, and I've written down a timeline for events for this story that should keep chapters coming more regularly. I hope the story turns out well and I'm going to do my best to make it turn out well but we are moving into uncharted territory here.
