A Letter Short is up and the backstory · 10:34pm Aug 30th, 2019
I have a new story up. It is the first of two stories from Bronycon 2019. It is called A Letter Short. The idea for the story came to me while sitting in Q&S and a typewriter broke. Well, not when it broke. It broke and then I went to a panel. It was when I returned and sitting next to it that what was said about it when it was being put to the side ran through my head. Specifically the fact that it couldn't be used to write a story.
Me being me I thought, "Well you can. You just have to omit one letter."
I noted the base idea down and went back to jotting ideas down for another story I was working on that GaPJaxie got me working on after a panel he was on.
Then started the mental mistake of wondering how hard can it be. So how hard is it? It took me about a week and a half to write it. I took two days off out of frustration too. While I was hyper-focusing on how to phrase nearly every sentence so I could work around the limitation of no "n" I was basically ignoring commas as a horrified C2 can attest to when he edited it. He also caught 3 "n"s in the story from moments where I just finished a sentence in frustration to get back to later. I can't thank you enough C2 for your help.
Warning: Spoilers Below
As for the story itself? Well, that came from the title itself. The title was the first thing that ran through my mind when the idea popped in my head. I wanted to write a story about a collection of letters with one missing. Twilight instantly sprung to my mind. Shortly after that, the letters that she wrote to Celestia did too. The idea then came to me that the Young Six would be given the task of writing letters to Twilight. Beyond that, the story really didn't start to develop until I started writing it and everything after just fell into place. One final note, I'm frankly quite glad that nobody left any story ideas in the comment to my Bronycon blog post. I left the opportunity for someone to have really gotten nasty with a story idea.
So word of warning if you haven't read it. Due to not being able to use the letter "n", it is going to be a bit weird to read. I think a better writer could do a lot more than I did if I am honest too. That said, while there was some frustration, it was fun to write. So go, read it and then laugh at me for my troubles. I hope you enjoy it.
