I dream of fire and water, dream of deserts · 3:29pm Jul 3rd, 2019

And too often, all I do is dream. Seldom do I do, and I disappoint myself, but every now and then, I manage to write the dreams down.

Next week begins what I'm referring to as a pseudo vacation. After debate similar to international trade negotiation we managed what is likely a final "family vacation" with my in-laws. I say final because of their increasing frailty and a list of tawdry personal issues. In addition, because the internal auditors at Very Large and Evil® don't care about vacations or holidays or anything resembling an inner life, I'll need to do some work remotely. Not much unless things go terribly wrong, but as an overly anxious person, work responsibilities hang like the Sword of Damocles over me, guaranteeing I can't really relax. Thus a vacation where I won't be, formally, unoccupied.

Despite this, I'm hope pony will let me escape work and my dreams will become words. My initial plan was to set up a VPN so I could use Scrivener, my preferred writing tool, remotely, but configuring the firewall lacks a "do it" button and its setup appears to be beyond my skill and understanding. So I'll go a low tech and transfer existing text to where I can edit it with phone (where I wrote In Dreams) or tablet (where I started Hippogriff) and get in a few hours of transferring the muddled thoughts of the last few months into a semblance of a first draft.

This writing project started as an attempt to direct my dreams by picking a topic and iterating over it until something developed. What came out of it is an anthology of (at least) seven chapters, unrelated in time and space, featuring a reoccurring pair of characters. This I hope to publish serially, avoiding the issue I have with completing larger works, which is not completing them at all. In bits and bites, the mountains and castles of my dreams should make it here, to FimFiction.

In other news, arrangements for both TrotCon and BronyCon are complete. For those of you fortunate enough to attend either, I hope we have a chance to talk, preferably at length. Many of you I know by sight, but not really at all. I promise to let you get a word in: honest. Then again, maybe not.

At this year's outings I'll be doing something new: cosplay. Nothing elaborate, but I want to do it at least once in my life, and time is running out for me and these events! I don't expect to dress up everyday, but if you see a short, rotund Hoity Toity wandering around half blind (because it's hard to wear the prop glasses over the prescriptions for long) say 'hi' (loudly) and see if I can stay in character for more than a minute.

Have a safe and fun summer everypony. Be good to each other.

† - I've no right to complain, really. First world problem and all that.

You could just use a free open-source editor like Libre Office or you could even just use a Google Doc if you have steady internet acess.

Good luck and have as good a time as possible. Looking forward to seeing you at BronyCon, my friend!
