Important information for the final act of MttPP (Reader polls inside—PLEASE VOTE!) · 1:20am Apr 15th, 2019
So, now that I’ve seen the official Hasbro version of the EqG cast ending up in Equestria, I have some decisions to make about the ending of Mission to the Pony Planet. I also have 2 polls for readers as I’d like some feedback before writing.
TLDR? Just scroll to the end for the polls.
First, 2 quick notes:
1) I’ve added the “Alternate Universe” tag since MttPP no longer fits with canon.
2) I’ve removed the “Adventure” tag as some people have been upset over the slow pacing of the story and I want to stress that the pacing is intentional as it’s the jokes and comedy of errors, as our characters learn how-to-pony, that are the focus rather than the story.
(I was severely disappointed in the “Spring Breakdown” special. Sci-Twi and Dash barely had any trouble with their new forms past the 1 minute freakout, no mention of lack of clothing, it was just the 2 of them and not the whole cast, it only lasted for 10% of the special, and they didn’t meet their pony selves. But I did love the line, “All my things are horse things!”)
Okay, here’s the main issue:
MttPP was actually written as a side-story to something else I’ve been writing and have yet to publish (check my first blog post if you’re curious about that). I still want that other story to fit within canon. Since MttPP is no longer canon, I’ll have to separate it and make it a complete story by itself.
That means I can’t finish the story how I originally had it planned.
So, the original plan was to have MttPP cover events in Equestria while the main story handled parallel events around Canterlot High which is why chapter 20 was titled “Checking in” and had Rarity touching base with Sci-Twi back home. The end of MttPP would have had the two stories reconnecting as Princess Twilight traveled through the portal with the HuMane characters to join the main story. In other words, MttPP wouldn’t have had a major conclusion of its own without its connection to the main story.
Now that MttPP isn’t going to be connected to this other story, I’ll need to do something different to avoid having MttPP ending with a very underwhelming and anti-climatic final chapter.
I’m thinking there’s 5 ways I can end the story.
1) Something dramatic.
Not only will we learn that the reason the pony Mane 6 (and Spike) are in Canterlot is due to some important issue, (some villain or political trouble for example) but there would also be conflict when the characters return to Ponyville, to make way for the portal, as the town thinks they’re in danger from these impostors.
This option would still have comedy, but would eventually shift in tone to have more action and consequences.
2) Funny and silly.
Keep the focus on the comedy and have the reason the pony Mane 6 is in Canterlot be some trivial thing. Everything remains a comedy of errors and physical humor while the story won’t really matter that much. The only conflict would be silly humor, including when Ponyville tries to mount a resistance against this perceived invasion that possibly ends up being a flash in the pan.
3) Funny but somewhat serious.
A mix between 1 and 2. Comedy remains the focus, but there’s less silliness overall. The reason the pony Mane 6 are in Canterlot won’t just be a gag and the characters might have to deal with that before returning through the portal.
4) Keep at least mostly to the original plan despite a lack of a full conclusion/payoff for the story and stay usually focused on comedy.
5) Same as #4 but also change the main story to have the “Alternate Universe” tag and keep the two stories connected. This will still get the original payoff at the end, but it will take a while to get there as the main story is only partially written so far. This could take well over a year for me. Possibly several.
With the exception of options #4 and 5, I’ll be writing a new conclusion to close out MttPP without the need to link back to the main story.
And now, considering that conclusion:
Do you need a resolution to what’s going on with Sunset by the end of MttPP or leave that to whenever I manage to get to it in the main story?
1) Nah: I’m just here for the comedy of these characters learning how to be ponies.
2) Sure: Makes sense to have all loose ends tied up by the last chapter, but it doesn’t need to be a major event.
3) Of course! Sunset was teased in the description, her issue should be detailed and resolved and be a dramatic boss battle climax!
Here are the links to the polls, but feel free to also leave comments below.
The poll results will be hidden to avoid spoilers.
Thank you for reading!
And just for fun: I recently found this web comic that happens to show something similar to how I envisioned Bon Bon’s clown hair. Just think of this but poofier.

Any chance we could see the results once the polls have closed?
I was thinking I should leave them hidden so readers woudn't know what's coming. But I suppose I could post them somewhere if people are curious.
Depending how you made it, the results will be in favor of Discord and in shame for Sunset Shimmer
