((the episode was absolutely excellent and I loved every minute of it and I'm so glad they're going where they're going. Woohoo!))
For now, I have SotS set in a 'just before S9 opener' in my head. Celestia does mention that the land has been in harmony for a while, and that indicates it's probably been a significant amount of time since Cozy tried her stunt. Perfect opportunity to go off-canon. Probably. Hopefully. JUST LET ME HAVE THIS.

Don't worry there is still time for them to bring back the tree before the show ends just have faith that they won't take the opportunity to burn every bridge they have like with what usually happens when the writers know it's the final season.

yeah my first thought when seeing the tree of harmony getting destroyed was "well there goes SotS canon leeway
" oh well should have seen it coming what with this being the final season and all

But yeah, I could easily see how the strangely developing nature of Equis Vitis would make Grogar reformulate his plans.
I'm sure it can magically grow back.
