"Tell me, little demon. Do you really think that this will fix everything for you?"
"I. . . I don't-"
"Do you really believe that after everything that's happened, everything that you have caused, that Celestia is going to simply let it go? That she'll just happily sweep this all under the rug while the crowds clamor for your head on a pike?"
Astrid's eyes continued to widen, her heart hammering, suddenly having trouble breathing.
The monster leaned closer, his stony form crackling as a wicked grin crossed his misshapen visage. "Make no mistake little demon," he growled at her. "She will do unto you what she did to me and her sister. In her eyes, you will be no different than any other monstrosity to be put down. No matter what you do, you will be hunted. You will be imprisoned. And Daddy's little girl will never go home!"
Damn.
Discord always did like to twist a situation to seem worse than it really was...
He also liked to make others lose faith in what they shouldn't actually have to fear.

Funny thing is he never lied. He just listed the possibilities.

He's lied if it suited the game he is playing. Don't forget the whole faking sick just to send Twilight and Cadence to the ends of the globe for a fake cure...
Not cool, Dissy. Not cool.

Damn it really do be like that sometimes.

Technically, he was sick, he showed numerous symptoms and spread it to other beings with a sneeze. He just neglected to mention that the illness was of his own creation, and that he could cure it himself with a snap of his fingers. If I remember correctly, where he lied there was the flower being the "only cure".

At the end of the whole worm battle and getting the flower, it was revealed he was faking all those sneezes and was just an excuse to spread chaos while trying to ruin Twilight and Cadences visit. However, karma is a bitch and he really did end up sick at the very end.

Oh, I see. Don't know how I missed that.
Good catch! Carry on, don't mind me.

All I can say is Discord is just being a lying ass in this scene. Wether it's been Discord, Nightmare Moon, or Chrysalis, Celestia has always attempted diplomacy before actually engaging in force. She even showed mercy on Chrysalis when she whimpered in fear in their battle which is the only reason Chrysalis overpowered her in that moment....

I've heard a lot of people say that Celestia held back because of a combination of not wanting to hurt her own subjects as well as underestimating Chrysalis' absorbed power. Each of those arguments never made too much sense to me, so to hear that someone else also chalks it up to Celestia's own need to resort to diplomacy first and foremost is a refreshing take.
