Progress is good, FotR is crazy · 9:40pm Mar 12th, 2019
Hi everyone,
Just a little update on a big story
We are once again back to Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy in hospital after the griffon attack. This time around with the revised story I'm happy with how much more depth there is and it really feels to me like the cute little ponies are about to be in over their heads with trouble. I feel like the world is better fleshed out and the greater variety of characters will allow me to explore what parts everyone has to play and how it affects them. Now that we have hit this point, I'm at last able to really start taking the story to new places. A lot of new scenes are in the works and pretty much everything you will see coming up is not previously released (except for a selection of heavily modified hospital scenes and griffonstone scenes). I even have a few updated scenes that never saw the light of day because they previously didn't really fit in or were forced to happen late in the story because of the slow pacing. I think that's all fixed now.
One rather large challenge thanks to having so much backstory planned is the difficulty of what to show, what to hint at and where to place these older scenes in the story because where I reveal past events could change the impact they have and some info I want to hold onto right up till when its really needed. However, after struggling with one epic past battle and its consequences I realised it might make a far more gripping intro to chapter 1 if I included some of this ancient battle vs the griffon king Warbeak there. Cutting from that fight to Cele dealing with Grandeur and then to some cute Fluttershy and Dashie I think would better set up the stories tone and if I make you wonder why that battle is important, then its bonus points. I don't really like going back and adding to early chapters when I'm trying to progress like this, but I feel as though it will lift the early story up.
Progress is continuing well with the new chapters (despite an often high film workload) I had hoped to release two chapters a month and keep it up, however, the next set of chapters set over about 2-3 days of pony world time has a crazy number of events for me to keep track of so I'm trying to get most of it all written up and revised to make sure I don't miss anything before I continue with the releases. The first big chapter should be ready early next month. This will also give me a buffer once more to allow me to work ahead of where the released story is. When I release this chapter I'll also update chapter one's intro with the griffon fight and I recommend reading the start before continuing with the mane story.
On the side to the big one...
I have on the side one surprise project with an old friend. Straight up Flutterdash fluff with her. That will be released when it's done. In the meantime, its fun on the side to this big project.
The next chapter for Our Daughter is also nearly ready, but I'm only writings bits when my mind is there so I can't say for sure when it will be released (hopefully within the next month).
I'm also slowly working on adjusting Crashing Angels so I can release new content for it. I think I have about five and a half more chapters of tweaking and then chapter 11 will at last see the light of day.
For now, my brain seems to favour the big story filled with cute romance and violence and I aim to maintain this balance even one the war breaks out.
