An Idea I had · 6:57am Jan 27th, 2019
So, I've been playing a lot of Warframe lately. . . like, a lot. Seriously, since my blog stating that I was considering getting into it, I've logged about 300 hours of it my Switch. The rest of my gaming library is suffering, it's been so long since I've been in a Splatoon match or played an indie platformer since Hollow Knight or Celeste.
BUT, that's not what I wanted to talk about. As most of you probably know, I have some experience in the Displaced genre. If you will allow me some vanity, it has not escaped my attention that when it comes to that particular genre, I seem to be something of a mild professional, by which I stop to put some actual thought into the story and how being flung to another world in a completely alien body might affect the main character, whereas in most other Displaced stories the author tends to skim over those bits in favor of tokens and action (are tokens still a thing? God it's been too long).
This experience I feel has put me in the position to do something somewhat different than what one might come to expect when reading a Displaced story. The reason I mentioned Warframe earlier is because, just today, I had the idea for a story wherein a person becomes displaced as one of the Tenno. Which Tenno you ask?
That's right, Equinox. The reason for this choice should be obvious to most, but those who are unaware of Equinox, she is a warframe whose theme centers around the duality of night and day, and has different forms representing them. Considering Celestia and Luna both follow this theme as well, it would no doubt lead to some interesting writing, if pulled off correctly.
However, the twist that I would have in mind to set this potential tale apart from others of its ilk is the notion that Equinox would not just be one person, but rather would instead have her (or his depending on the form they take) personality be split in a way where the main character is seeing the world through two different viewpoints. Not quite multiple personalities, but instead something similar to Garnet from Steven Universe.
Except in this case, Ruby and Sapphire would be the night and day forms that Equinox switches between, each one offering different strengths, weakness and of course emotional dispositions. There's even a mod specific to Equinox that allows your alternate form to fight alongside you if equipped.
This direction I feel could lead to some existential situations in which the two halves would quarrel, asking themselves about which part of their being is the real person, or if either of them were real to begin with. It would also lead to some potential shenanigans involving Celestia and Luna interacting with the different forms.
At the moment though, despite all this rambling this idea is just that: an idea, one that I may attempt to flesh out at some point in the future, or abandon as a faint hope of a decent story that would ultimately lead nowhere. Who knows, I just wanted to put it here so I didn't forget it.
Thanks for hearing me out.

Are you just putting this out there or are you writing it, because I would honestly be surprised if you couldn’t pull it off.

Honestly, it's just a concept that I came up with in about ten minutes or so today. I'm not writing it currently, as I would like to finish up some of my other stories first before I go ahead and add something else to my plate. Additionally, as good as I am at writing, I cannot say for certain that I could reliably do the idea justice, considering the amount of thought that would be required to portray the situation in an enjoyable manner, mainly because I struggle with crafting more thoughtful and introspective pieces.

You, I can see pulling this off. I think that dual personalities are easily messed up, but pay off if done right. Just be sure to pass it by someone else before final draft. One more thing, have you finished the second dream.

I actually did, and found the quest to be quite fun, and the voice acting was on point. Fighting those sentient enemies put up quite a challenge that most other enemy types don't offer which was a nice if somewhat frustrating change of pace, although the ending I felt was slightly lackluster in execution. Overall though I am having tons of fun with the game so far; one might even say too much fun. As I stated above, the rest of library has been collected dust since I downloaded it.
Late supplemental idea: use Rell. That should explain the fractured personality.
