Alright, so I want to make sure there was time for people to read the latest Marked for Evil, because it's a big one, and I don't want to spoil the twist to the classic scene I made. If you haven't read it yet, go read it. Spoilers after page break.
Right, the camera. So, one of my issues I had with this story is that I don't like MLP stories where people die, and I especially don't like the idea of guns existing in Equestria or the EQG world. (Which is keeping the punny names, because if Canterlot exists in EQG, all horse puns for names are a thing. If you demand an explanation as to why, I'm going to say that the Mongol's conquered all of Europe and instilled a deep love of horses in European culture, so when settlers reached America, instead of naming things after saints or whoever their monarch was, they just named them after horses. Is it dumb? Yeah, but there's your deep dive lore explanation. Or it's literally just a society run by horse girls.)
So, I had an idea for a story, but the idea involved a lot of murder and guns, and I didn't want to bring that into MLP, so I needed to hide the bodies. And hey, why not add some Equestrian magic, since it seems a shame to write in a setting where magic exists without using any magic. Anyways, I saw the camera phone in Rollercoaster of Friendship, figured something like that would do, and we were off to the races. The only question I had was would Sunset take the photo knowing what it did or just think they could take a photo embarrassing enough to Rose she'd agree to destroy the photo she took last night. (And it's not like movie or musical JD is above blackmailing people with photos to get his way.)
But I decided Sunset knowing damned well what she was doing worked way better from a tone and characterization perspective. Hope you all agree.
