The Veteran's Day Update · 10:27pm Nov 12th, 2018
So it's Veteran's Day in the United States. I don't really have the time to properly celebrate it, so I'll just upload a short chapter of my fic. In case it isn't clear by now, the military is a recurring symbol throughout this story, and they are potrayed as being the only ones capable of restoring order to the wasteland on a large scale. Silver Bullet always admired the military and aspired to join it, but her family never allowed her and tried steering her towards following in their hoofsteps of white collar civilian work. In chapter 16, she gets a little taste of combat, and later on in this story, she meets some ponies who will finally grant her wish.
I don't remember if I mentioned this in the last update, but I'm very surprised to find that my story now exceeds 100,000 words. I was expecting I would be somewhere closer to 50k by this point. I'm shocked because from my view, I haven't even scratched the surface of what I have planned for Nuclear Winter in the long term. My best estimate is that we may only be 5% through, and I'm worried that by the time I'm done writing (if I even finish writing!), there may not be a fandom left to read it, much less a FimFiction to post it on.
I may make more posts on this site soon outlining my plans or asking for critiques, just so I can talk to others about my ideas.
I'm really excited for the second story arc, which will begin to dig into the 'meat and potatoes' of this story and its central themes. In the first arc, it was complete anarchy. In the second, we will meet what remains of the prewar government and begin dealing with issues of authority, as well as having several 'set pieces' for scenes and battles, because it will take place in a ponification of a real world town I am deeply familiar with.
