A Question on "Twilight, Revised" · 11:19pm Nov 2nd, 2012
For those of you following the story, it's looking like chapters four and five are going to be very, very, very closely related, to the point where the logical ending point of chapter four might not make sense if I posted it on its own, as it sort of needs context from what happens at the beginning of chapter five to avoid it looking like I'm deliberately punching readers in the stomach (more than usual). I know that I did sort of the same thing with chapter one and Luna's conversation, but trust me when I say that this one is a more egregious example of the technique, and I'm worried about it discouraging people from reading further. Sorry for being so vague, but if I tip my hand on this one, the ending (and it's going to be one hell of a powerful ending) will be revealed.
So, would you rather:
1. Have me write and release chapter 4 when it's done, leaving it on what might be an unsatisfying note and then a wait before chapter 5
2. Release both chapters at the same time
3. Combine the two chapters into one mega-chapter that would be take longer to produce and would likely end up being longer than the other chapters thus far
Let me know in the comments; I've been grappling with this for a while as I finishing outlining the rest of the story and move into making the rough draft, and I keep going back and forth on this. So, I figured I'd hear and take into account what you, the readers, want.
Also, I got a downright awesome fanart.
I still wanna know if it's going to have a happy ending before I even touch it...

My vote is for Option 2. Release both chapters at the same time.
Think its better not to have a cliffhanger, waiting on something big and good it better then waiting after a cliff.
I would like to see either #2 or #3 happen, if given the choice. My disdain of not having the correct context (and reading cliffhangers) tends to burn with the intensity of around ~1200 Flaming Twilights. Either that or about a thousand suns. Y'know, whichever's easier to gather.

Sounds like 2 or 3 is the best bet, I guess. Although now I'm curious about what would be so bad about the cliffhanger.

That picture is astounding; into my backgrounds folder with it! The style reminds me of that old (and classic) Robin Hood movie, with all the characters made animals (whatever the word for that is)

I think I'd prefer the mega-chapter out of the choices given.

That's the one. I'd recommend it even. But Mr. Impressive you must share: what is the secret to getting fanart? Or, if that's too much a secret to spill, you can just tell us who was the second gunman. Or failing that, you might answer how many licks does it truly take to get to the cetnre of a tootsie pop?

I have no idea. I almost never get fanart. This is like... the second time I've gotten any.
If you have both, you can release a gut-wrenching cliffhanger, and give readers the choice of how long it takes for it to savor it before taking the next bite.
How MEGA are we talking? I'd draw the line between option 2 and 3 at about 15k, 20k as a limit.

I'm voting megachapter, but Twilight, Revised is worth waiting on, so don't let yourself feel rushed in any way.

Well, I have to finish writing it first, so I have no idea.
I'm guessing the combined word count would be roughly around 12k at most, though. Both of these chapters are going to be a tad on the short side.

I'm gonna say megachapter.
For me it depends on how long the wait would be for the second chapter. If its going to be say, 3 or 4 weeks, just give me the chapter now. If they'll be released reasonably closely together regardless, just group em.

Also, I'd say #2, that way you get the impact out of the dark ending of that chapter but the next chapter is still available.
I say combine the sections, but that's me.
Consider tweaking the penultimate chapter to end on a better point to springboard into the finale. Cliff hangers are good things!
