A Chapter Redone and a Schedule Talked About · 2:56pm Oct 5th, 2018

I've received concerns about The Keynote Speaker sounding off. To address them, I've added to and editedthe chapter. Hopefully, this will be better off than the original.

Now, to more general stuff:

More than a month ago, I cut down on my writing workload from everyday except Sunday to two-to-four chapters a week. The goal in place was (and still is) to go for 1,500 words per writing day. Well, it's cracking. The experience I've had with the above chapter made me realize that there are days when even 1,500 words isn't feasible.

This, coupled with the stringent schedule I'd put on myself regarding future fics, has made me unsure if I'll deliver the stories as told and on time.

So, here's a quick overview of what'll happen: I'll be turning A Volunteer at the Bureau into a medium-sized story, slated to end mid-October/early November. Yes, this is similar to what befell Magical Curiosity. Let's hope things don't go wrong this time; I'll at least have something to focus on, that I learned.

After that, A Magic Turn of Events will continue until mid-to-late November. Once that's done, the Ocellus-going-from-her-old-life-to-her-new-one fic would happen very late November up until early-to-mid-December. Only when those two fics are done will the two Earth-meets-Equestria fics finally release somewhen in December.

That's that. I hope I didn't bother you with it. Have a good day!

stringent schedule I'd put on myself regarding future fics,

Y'know, this is supposed to be fun... I don't know about the rest of the audience, but I'd choose quality over speed any day. Rushing through this won't help anyone.

Well, I write when it's fun, I write when it's not. I've found myself writing past midnight a few times (and not in the best state of mind, to say the least). The thing about it is, I love writing whether I feel like it or not, and the one thing about loving something is the dedication you give to it. OK, it's somewhat misguided (or much misguided, perhaps), but I'm bumbling in love with this thing.

About quality over speed...well, I really like quality, but I take a pragmatic view on fan fiction. If you want to get more people to try your material, what's the most stable: A glorious one-shot, a great yet sporadically updated fic, or a good but consistent story? I believe it's the last one, building up that reputation that I'm (sort of) reliable when it comes to the schedule. Like I've said before, it's like being a YouTuber. Want to get known? Post, post, post.

And yet, I know it's not getting anywhere if it's not quality enough. It's a bit tough when put that way. :facehoof:

I appreciate your concern and I thank you for it. However, I still value quantity a whole lot, perhaps to an unhealthy degree; if I want to advance here, I'd rather pop up on the main page as many times as feasible than to appear once in a while and hope that whatever I've published for that long period of time will bring in something nice.

As for TheOdd1sOut and similar channels: There's a lot of quality in their work, I'm very sure. However, if you want to get noticed there quicker, you'd have to make videos on a short schedule. A consistent, weekly/daily/somewhere-in-the-middle stream of content is more stable than a once-in-a-month hit wonder.
