To Fear a Predator and next two Shimmerverse installments. · 4:29am Jun 30th, 2018
I want to rant a bit. I really want to rant a bit because To Fear A Predator instills mixed feelings for me. Like really mixed feelings overall. I am satisfied I have finally finished a story that took two years of my life to complete... which didn't get that much attention compared to how much time had to anguish over it, but whatever. The thing about To Fear a Predator that I felt was that I wanted to write a mystery story. I really did. A mystery story implementing my own version of Trixie who I really did like to write, as I wrote a few things to freshen myself up with a friend. So I thought I could do it.
Yet... I had to constantly changed or omit certain aspects I really did want to implement because I felt they didn't work or I wanted to move the story along. It was fine but... it was so agitating and at times made me question whether to continue the Shimmerverse. Thankfully that's not a question but I really don't think I'll try my hand at mystery anytime soon or at all besides subplots.
Still I want to hear your thoughts on the story. What did you think of the story overall, such as the plot and the characters?
As for the next stories, well I'll tell you the basic gist of the next two.
The very next story is basically going to be about the Gala tickets... Yep and it should be a nice and short story where I get to have a little fun and showcase all of the main six again. Shouldn't be a long story, 3 chapters at most. Just something nice and short to go off of from one of my more grueling projects.
The next should be a Coco Pommel story focused on her character and her relationship with her mother and how it could affect the townsfolk. Hopefully this shouldn't be a long overdue finisher either.
Hope they will be enjoyable to you and I hope you all have a nice day. Until then, I can't wait to read your opinions. Take care all.
Eh, I liked it.
I don't like what happened to Trixie. in the end. She could have very easily gotten people killed. More importantly, The Inquisitors wield far to much power with too little in the way of a safety net. You juggled multiple plot lines pretty well. Sunset had a nice dilemma. The griffon was cool.
Some stories just aren't going to do that well. This sub-genre is a little played out now; it was hot stuff when the Lunaverse and Rainbooms and Royalty debuted, but nowadays most fol don't seem to care. Like how everyone tried to make a ponified version of the Avengers when it came out and literally none of them pulled it off. It's not going to reach a wide audience, so it might be best to write for yourself.
I enjoyed the story, great character development for sunset, also knowing that Trixie Lulamoon would have to stay in Ponyville is a fitting punishment.
An enjoyable story overall. I wouldn't think of it as much of a "mystery" as it seemed pretty clear Crowland was innocent almost from the beginning, and Pokey Pierce seemed like such a jerk I had him pegged as the real criminal fairly quickly.
What I liked most of this story was the characterization of Trixie, one with real political power and prone to abusing it, tempered by her love of her family to keep her on the straight and narrow. Trixie, Cato and Dot were the highlights of the story for me.
The Gala story sounds like it will be lots of fun.
