A Writer's Quick Reference · 8:13am Jun 24th, 2018
I know there are probably others out there, but the more the better, right? The best way to make sure everypony sees something when they need it is to have that something show up all over the place.
Too many ponies mix up a thing or two when they put in the effort to write.
But together, we can set them right!
There are some common things they're all too likely to typo when their muse is in full flow. I've done it myself.
It's perfectly normal to find you've passed by errors, unnoticed. But that's in the past. The future is for fixes!
But if we all helped each other out with good examples—as we should've to begin with!—we'd all be more used to seeing things done correctly, and would've been more likely to catch those errors as we go! Think of all the typos we could've prevented!
So I've constructed a few sentences to lay bare the most common faults; bear with me, guys!
Yes, nopony likes to hear that they've made a mistake—yes, right here—but it happens; and I promise! When I point it out, I'm only trying to help.
I'm not out to make you don a dunce cap. Or to wear one. (Those words do mean different things, though!)
It's not the goal of this blog to make anyone feel bad. Its job is to be useful!
I know some all of you are all ready to tell me to shut up already.
My sense of humor can affect some ponies that way. Even when I don't mean to have that effect.
Princess Luna would probably tell me, "Thou art thine own worst enemy, sometimes, Midknight. Thy snark knowest no limits when the late hours and lack of sleep take their toll on thee."
I'd protest, except it's so true. I have to accept that.
You're right, Princess. But even when a princess calls you out on the clear result of your caffeine addiction, it's not so easy to buck.
Whoops, did I say that aloud? Are we allowed to say that word in a blog? Oh dear...
I'm not gonna lie: I should lay down my laptop and lie down to sleep.
But where's the fun in that? I have a principle to uphold; sic the principal on me if you must!
Are we really so lost in our errors that we have to enforce a bedtime hour?
I say nay! We shall resist the neighing of nags and the nagging of naysayers, and together, we shall overcome the typos!
So lend me a hoof, and if you should see a pony writer in need, send them a link, and let my words them heed!
Or something. I'm not exactly William Wallace Brave Heart when it comes to speechifying, am I?
