Gender switch fan names · 8:34pm May 31st, 2018
Just an FYI, my mind will wander to odd places. My friends frequently wonder how I get on specific topics. With that heads up, you get this weird set of musings. XD
I know there are some generally accepted fan names for the gender swapped Mane 6. Some of them I like as character names but I thought I'd take a stab with my own interpretations for some of them. I think Dusk Shine is a good name but, because I can be picky, it doesn't have the same number of syllables as Twilight Sparkle. Bubble Berry is good sounding but it doesn't have the same number of syllables. Butterscotch also has the same number of syllables but it just doesn't seem like a good counterpart name (though I'd love to see some character with that name),
So, while I was on a walk, I decided to pick out names. Some are unchanged from popular fan names. Others are different.
- Applejack=Applejack. Perfect name. Period. Requires no change.
- Rarity=Elusive. A good switch that has similar meaning and the same number of syllables.
- Rainbow Dash=Spectrum Dash. I admit that I'm up in the air with this name. Rainbow Blitz is good. Spectrum Blitz is, too. But even just leaving the name as Rainbow Dash would work.
- Fluttershy=Breezyshy. I wanted to preserve something of Fluttershy's name and recalled reading one story that gave Fluttershy a little brother (written before Zephyr Breeze made his appearance) named Breezyshy. It works for me.
- Pinkie Pie (Pinkamena Diane Pie)=Pinker Pie (Pinkevladmir Lunar Pie). Oh, this one. I couldn't help it. It amuses me. It's Pinkie. I wanted the name to still be that more or less. For a middle name, I was tempted to go with Artemis but it is, mythologically speaking, a female name (and it is three syllables instead of two). Lunar seemed like a good play on the myths. Pinkevladmir? Seemed like a good companion to Pinkamena.
- Twilight Sparkle=Nightfall Dazzle. It was a lot harder to modify Twilight's name. Most of the synonyms have a different number of syllables. Or sounded more feminine (like Gloaming which I think is pretty rocking sounding). Same thing with Sparkle. Not entirely satisfied with Dazzle but it is growing on me.
I will swear on my 2$-bills that Pinkevladmir could be a real name for a real person.
