My last grandparent passed not too long ago. My grandma was 99 years and a handful of days old. Is it odd that I find it easier to write that here, when I've never met any of you and only know of you through the written word, and not post it to my friends and family on the book face?
She lived a good long life. I cared for her for six years and an aunt took over three months ago. She'd been on the decline for a while and this passing was not unexpected. I'm sad. But I'm also kind of relieved. She was ready to go for a while. But she was able to see all her living children at the same time earlier this year and she's met her great-grandchildren. Last night, at the request of my dad, I emailed him a bunch of photos of her for the wake/reception/or something. I'd scanned many, many photos and negatives at the house. I sent her 2nd grade photo, photos from before she married my grandpa (a few at the NY World's Fair 1940), and assorted family photos (my dad with 70s hair never fails to amuse me).
Sadly, I won't be attending the funeral. The damn virus is one of the reasons (interstate travel anyone?). There are a couple of other reason, some good, some (perhaps) not so good. But I am thinking of her and will remember her.
Nope, it's not odd at all. When my mother passed away at the age of 95, I found it easier to write about her to you guys than my own family. I'm probably going to be scanning photos of the family for the next few decades.
