Alright, lets get some things straight with Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee · 8:05pm May 30th, 2018

Most of you don’t know this, but I’m one of those people who thrive off of the salt haters get for things like Pokemon and Final Fantasy. I’m not a genwunner or the kind of person that goes “FF7 is the only FF that should exist”, but there is something funny about watching something I want get shown while others wither in pain at it’s existance. If you don’t like it, give me a better reason than “Gen 1 did this” or “FF7 is surperior because it just is” and I’ll give you a pass. Don’t and I will tell you what I’ve told everyone who has hated on this game in the past 24 hours: get yourself some realistic expectations!

I, of course, am talking about Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee. A game that I was dreading until I saw this trailer.

Anyways, I need to get a few things straight first. FIrst of all, I despise Gen 1 in many ways due to lackluster design of most of it’s Pokemon, horrible ability to withstand time, and three starters that I don’t care about. Secondly, I despise Pokemon GO even more than I do Gen 1 because it does have what makes Pokemon what it is to me: simple yet intense battles with incredible stories and adorable creatures (okay, that last one it has but that doesn’t hold much for it). With all of that in mind, with this being a kanto based game primarily focusing on the original 151+ alolan forms and Go imigration, you would think I would be piss. The thing is, I’m not.

First of all, for those of you who are saying that battles aren’t a thing, that’s only for wild pokemon. Like Pokemon XD and Colosseum, which you are going to see me relating this game to a lot, your main method of leveling is simply trainers. While the game is likely going to be more casual due to this trying to reach out to both old fans and GO fans, it’s keeping the battle system that we know from previous games. I have also heard that you will be able to refight trainers who you’ve beaten via some mean, which probably means that the VS. Seeker is returning for the first time since Gen 4, so there is not an experience limit. Also, both levels and CP will be implemented so I’m interested to see how they make those two work together.

Also, the thing about not online, that was a misinterpretation by the media. The game will have online and I’m predicting a large overhaul will be given to the trading sequence.

However, the biggest thing to note here is the amazing things that are in this game that people are ignoring due to the amount of salt mentioned earlier. Eevee is getting the spotlight for the first time since the Gamecube days, which is far more important to me than Pikachu sharing it with him/her because I love the little furball. Yes, they can’t evolve or be shuffled out of your party, but both can still be caught in the wild I’m expecting the starter versions to be given stat buffs compared to there wild counter parts. Also, how isn’t going to deny how adorable/amazing it is that you can dress them up. You can expect a gangster Eevee from me in the future.

Aside from that, ride Pokemon are return which is something I am all for due to how stupid HMs are now, and you can have other pokemon follow behind you that aren’t Eevee or Pikachu (the former is always sitting on your head and the latter is comfy in your backpack) which is something people have been wanting for a long time. Along with that we got the Pokeball plus which functions as both a game exclusive joycon and a arceus blessing Pokewalker! As for the catching mechanics, I myself love the idea of actually doing the motion to throw the Pokeball and I hope you feel the rumble in your hands every time it shakes.

As for the GO imigration, it won’t make me play the mobile game but think of it this way: a whole new wave of fans are coming to the franchise and this is most likely the first real experience any of them might be having. If the neccesary evil of the fanbase growing is GO compatibility, than I’m all for it. Also, note how it sends the GO pokemon not to your party, but to this Go Park thing, which means they will stay seperate from the main party and keep the diffeculty more balance. Also, lets face it, that “special pokemon” they announced is very obvious given that Goruchu has been brought to light not long ago and Eevee is usually the way Game Freak tests new methods of evolution. Yes, that’s right, Lets Go Pikachu is getting Goruchu and Lets Go Eevee is getting a new eeveelution of some kind. Even if I’m not the biggest Pikachu fan, both of those things are pretty damn exciting.

Anyways, I’m gonna end it there. I hope that this has given you a different view on this game and has put aside some of your worries. I you still have a reason for not liking it other than ‘Go sucks’ than I will completely understand, and it’s not like this is the start of Gen 8. That is next year. Anyways, please tell me what you think and I’ll see you all next time.
