An Optional Result of Caustic Boredom

What happened was the exact opposite of what I had hoped would happen; my mind blanked out and I couldn’t map out the plotline for “The Furthest Stars,” not beyond chapter eight. I couldn’t see the point or potential in it anymore, nor in any of the dozen-plus pony fics I have planned. I can’t explain it properly, but for me, writing and posting on this site seems to be more

    An Exercise in Being Subpar

I’ll be spending the week away from my computer (and my eyes ought to thank me), so I won’t be able to post any stories (a good thing, some might say). I’ll be using the time to come up with story ideas and flesh out the plot of “…The Furthest Stars” and wonder why I’m incapable of writing anything halfway decent.

It was probably a mistake coming up with this account.

    Cleaning House (Grumpy Pony Remix)

Fixed the spatial issues in the three chapters of “…The Furthest Stars;” hopefully they didn’t cause much confusion. The story itself should do that just fine.

    Cleaning House

Before I leave for my unwanted trip, I’ll be taking time to edit and post chapter four of “…The Furthest Stars,” as well as cleaning up what I already have on the site. I’m still getting used to the formatting on Fimfiction, but I think I can get it done in time. I’ve noticed some problems in chapter three of “…The Furthest Stars” that I already took care of, problems that I know

Trapdoor Days and other Flights of Fancy

It’s been nearly a month since I started writing MLP fanfiction again (“again” meaning I’ve written several stories half a decade ago and was too nervous to post them online; I’m content to write, but to have people actually read and judge my work is something my thin skin hasn’t developed immunities against), and I think I’ve made up a decent enough backlog that I think I’m ready

Fixed the spatial issues in the three chapters of “…The Furthest Stars;” hopefully they didn’t cause much confusion. The story itself should do that just fine.

“Brochure from the Middle of Nowhere” was an eleven thousand-word trash heap, collapsing in utero, which means it was all a waste of time, and boy, do I LOVE wasting time. I’m tempted to get rid of “Circles in Circles” as well. The single downvote is niggling at me like a paper cut between fingers.

I’ve been working on the step sheets to “…The Furthest Stars” up to chapter six in freehand, but I’m worried that it’s taking up too much time. I’ve taken a somewhat recent interest in roleplaying games (venturing no further than purchasing and reading the handbooks), so I’ve been toying with the idea of maybe writing out my step sheet like a D&D or Call of Cthulhu campaign map, using an Excel document with the proper story points, and notes for item and currency acquisition, conflicts, and vital events. The story was always going to have multiple arcs. Self-contained arcs, but strung together by several themes and one character: Tempest.

In a previous blog post I mentioned doing a separate adventure series involving Rarity. I realize that it would be much more prudent and beneficial to let “…The Furthest Stars” absorb that story. I’m totally not doing this because I couldn’t come up with a logical reason why Rarity would return to that mountainous area inhabited by the Diamond Dogs, now that the machine of her fashion empire is running without a hitch.

I don’t know, maybe it’s all just a waste of time.

I don’t know why I’m worried that all these websites like Fimfiction and EQD will decay once MLP goes on to G5. I know they won’t (I’m…sure they won’t), and I don’t have any basis for thinking this, but I’m still worried that I won’t have time to put up some kind of story that the MLP fan community, which I’ve been a part of for seven years, will actually enjoy reading.
