Rebuilding just hit an important milestone! · 1:58am Feb 25th, 2018
Hi everyone,
As I prepare to take off for parts unknown, I wanted to share the news: Rebuilding had its 1000th view tonight. That's right, a thousand people have taken the time to at least have a look at my strange little tale. And I thank every single one of them for doing so.
And for those of you waiting for the next chapter or two, fear not. I have a nice long plane ride coming up, and had a nice think about exactly where and how I want chapter 7 to end. And for me, having the end of the chapter is most vital. Once I have that feeling and that scene fixed in my mind, I can write toward it. I'm not sure how many of you get the joke of my user name here, but it's from an early episode of the Simpsons, in which Lisa is trying to buy a hamster. The pet shop owner picks one up and tells her "This one writes mysteries under the name J.D. McGregor." When Lisa asks how a hamster can write mysteries, the shop owner replies "Well, he thinks of the ending first, and then works backward." And that's exactly how I like to write: rather than starting out where my last chapter left me and role playing through the scenario, I run the scenario through my head over and over until I find an ending scene that gives me the sort of feeling I want.
For those of you who are interested, the ending for chapter 7 finally crystallized in my mind while I was walking around my local Costco a few days ago. I already knew what I wanted to have happen, but hadn't realized just how far I wanted Starlight to go at the end. I saw the scene in my mind, and I can only reveal that it ends with tears and blood.
Hang on a while longer. Once we're through Field Day, the real fun can begin.
...Tears and blood? Oh, lord. And this was supposed to be a stakes-free outing. You only make me want to see more, McGregor. (Meanwhile, I suppose I'll re-read up to this point.)

In theory, a kids sports day should be stakes free. But then, the title of chapter 7 is going to be "The Very Serious Business of Child's Play."
Twilight assumes there are no real stakes because she's looking at it as an adult. Starlight and Lula are going to have a very different perspective once things get going.
