Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

Prereader verdict on new Midnight Rising chapter is in...

And unfortunately, that verdict is unanimous:

Complaints were: too meta, hard to follow, does nothing to advance the plot, and potentially makes things worse while trying to fix them.

Five Star Service - chapter revamp update · 5:03pm Feb 20th, 2018

After some discussion with my prereaders as to how best redo the climactic scene, most notably AJ_Aficionado who offered some very good advice, I believe I have settled on a new approach.

So, here's what's going to happen: the closing Attorney section will be expanded from two chapters to three, with the two existing chapters acting as bookends to a brand-new full-length middle chapter that will contain all the adult content and a completely remade climactic scene. The first chapter has already been (re)released, while the third chapter will be stripped of its current opening scene and instead open with the aftermath.

I actually think the aftermath portion of the chapter is pretty good as written, so changes there will (mostly) be tweaks to make it better fit the new content. This way, those of you who don't care to read about this character in an adult situation do not have to; you can simply skip it and go right to the third (aftermath) chapter, which will have its updates posted when the middle chapter releases. Just as with the previous chapter, I will have my prereading team of AJ_Aficionado, Silentwoodfire, Leo Archon and Denim_Blue hit this thing as hard as they can to make bloody well sure it's good and worthy of both the story and characters, which my previous attempt at this scene cateogrically was not.

As for when all this will happen, I'm hoping within a week or two. To be sure, there are personal complications at the moment; work is difficult right now, and as it turns out, I have yet more surgery on the way, this to fix an increasingly painful tailor's bunion on my right foot. Unfortunately, this involves breaking and resetting the bone, which will lay me up for some time. Maybe I can use the down time to get some significant writing in, at least...
