Familiarity Signal Boost / JWI excerpt · 6:18am Jan 10th, 2018
Just thought I'd provide a signal boost to Fervidor's new story, Familiarity.
I'm tagging this with Just Winging It, since there are some elements in common, and I think people that like it might also like Familiarity, from what I've read so far.
Full disclosure: I helped Fervidor work out a few issues by pm on this story. Also, it has influences from Howl's Moving Castle, which was a great book.
This does, of course, bring to mind that I really should continue with Just Winging It one of these days. Here's a bit of what I have sitting around of the next chapter, for putting up with my advertising other fanfics...

"You needed my help making your potion?" Scootaloo asked. "What is it, anyways?"
"Your help, and one of your feathers, actually," Twilight said, ignoring the rest of what they'd said.
Well, she did know one potion that needed a feather. "You aren't making a love potion or something, are you?"
Spike shook his head. That was something, at least. She supposed this was a lot more complicated than a love potion would need.
"Why would I be making— " Twilight rubbed her forehead and closed her eyes. "There's an entire class of potions that need feathers added to them, not just love poisons. The effects vary widely depending on the type of feather, but even if you narrow it to pegasus feathers, that still covers a good number of potions."
"Why my feather, though?" Scootaloo asked. "If a lot of potions need feathers, wouldn't you have some already?"
"Of course I do!" Twilight pointed over at a shelf which, indeed, had quite a number of feathers, all bagged and labeled, in quite a variety of colors and sizes. "What type of potion lab do you think this is, anyways? I have everything I need for making just about any commonly used potions, and a number of lesser known ones as well. If anything gets low, I just send Spike over to the apothecary for supplies."
That made sense, but it still didn't totally answer her question. "So why do you need mine?"
Twilight gave her an annoyed look. "Because this potion is for you. I'm personalizing it to be for you and not just anyone, so it needs one of your feathers. Oh, and a few strands from your mane."
Twilight stepped forward, and gave a quick tug at one of Scootaloo's smaller feathers, and a pair of scissors snipped off a small portion of her mane before she could protest.
"Ouch!" Scootaloo rubbed at her wing. "You still haven't said what all this does. Some sort of wing super power booster?"
"Any physical effects granted by potions tend to be fairly limited in scope and duration, Scootaloo. Even if I had found some sort of wing enhancement potion, and I'm sure some exist, it would have a limited time frame, and would be illegal or restricted, so that you didn't have pegasi just consuming one right before a race." Twilight lectured. " This isn't a potion you'll be drinking, in any case."
