A New Year Begins… · 7:12pm Jan 3rd, 2018
...and the old one will go down in infamy.
But, after some thought, I think my first personal blog of the year should be a positive thing, and there is nothing more positive than saying that my GF is the best girlfriend ever and that thanks to her 2018 started on an amazing note or two.
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra organized a very special event for the 31st of December:
And she got tickets for both of us. Not only that, but we were fortunate enough to actually be upgraded thanks to a dear friends' kindness and as such, we not only got to listen to excellent music, but also food, drinks and the chance to sit down with said friends after the concert and have an amazing time.
Now, a lot of you guys probably don't think that I would rock out to Michael Jackson songs. Well, you might be surprised to find that you were right and I more or less sway to the music. Close enough, I guess?
Still, it had been some time since I had been to the Orchestra, and quite frankly I missed it. As you guys know if you've followed me for a while I'm very fond of the cello and also of musicals. So this was a total treat! Add to that that I was born in the 80s and grew up listening to Michael and you can imagine how excited I was.
The best part, however was to have someone I loved with me, and I think that's what I want to really take in. No matter how bad things got this year, I had her and my kid—I also had an extended family to have my back and my folks back in Mexico. I had my friends, online and in person. I had my readers and supporters here, who validate my work and efforts in this site time and again, and I had the kindness and support of so many when I needed it.
Could 2017 have been better? Sure, but whatever the deal we got handed, those around us, from family to friends to acquaintances that give us so much is what makes the good overshadow the bad.
So here's to a new year, with new challenges, new stories, and hopefully good changes. That… and good company.
Cheers!
