Have no time to look around, just run around: Nightmare Nights Dallas, Day Three · 3:39am Oct 30th, 2017

Sunday

6:45
Alarm. Too many snooze cycles before I am finally up. Some terrible room coffee, a shower, and off to breakfast.

8:50 or so
Real coffee and breakfast. Then back to the room, after I take an apple for an afternoon snack.

10:00
My first panel that isn’t in the main room. About evolving series. I take notes in the moleskin. The panel is almost ruined by “that guy” who is a fount of misinformation, talks too loud, and doesn’t understand conversations are not monologues. I still thought it was worth attending and plan to look up the speaker on FF.

11:30
I have to go to the front desk to replace the room keys because the damn door doesn’t open. I have to walk back and test out both of them.

12:00
I am queued for autographs, third in line. Not sure if signing is 1:30 or 2:00. It takes a while before it is cleared up: its the former.

12:13
I spot Waldo popping out of game room. Do I win anything?

12:40
Security shows up. They have a chair. Line has about a dozen people now.

12:56
I am people watching. An older couple is checking in and seem a bit weirded out. Then they laugh, smile.

1:15
The big room panel is out and most head for autographs. Line starts to block off stairs, so security reroutes it into The Coral.

1:24
We are in. Four tickets, $80.

1:26
Andrea Libman is first. She’s got a fast schtick to move people through. She has a long line by the time I look back. I do tell her the signature is for my son, not me.
Then Shannon Chan-Kent; I’m the first one to her! Come on people, she’s the other half of Pinkie. She personalizes the signature to match Libman’s. Both are on the Pinkie Pie page in the Mane Six section.

1:30
Big Jim, now. He misspells “despair” just like everyone else, then fixes it. He’s giving away these little posters that are “The Blob” references, the new version, but I have to tell him I’ve only seen the original. I complement him on the episode commentary, to which he responds he was surprised so many people showed up. It was packed.
One to go, but Nick Confalone isn’t here yet. Security has me wait in the back of the room.

1:40
He snuck in. I am the second to get his signature today. I tell him how much we liked “Rock Solid Friendship”, the S1 vibes. With a smile, he says he’s got a couple of stories in S8 he thinks we’ll like. Autograph is also personalized for my son.

1:45
I am back in the room. Mission accomplished. I take a bit of a break.

2:30
Another vendor room run, but I don’t buy anything. Neither prices or merchandise has changed at all.

3:00
See if I can get a$5 shirt for my son. Mediums have been out for a long time, so I take my book and sit out by the pool; decent temperature but chilly in the breeze.

3:47
Last run in vendors hall. I am leaving and first see Nick Confalone enter and walk by. Then it is GM Berrow in costume, a brown bear onesie thing. Next to her is Larson with beer. I am spying as they buy some prints and sign them. They exit and end up at the hall-side memorial that has developed. They add their autographed prints and disappear when I am not looking.

4:01
The sign for the vendors hall is carried off, but folks are still in there. Dusty Katt is leafing through Tony Fleece’s original comic art by the doors.

4:05
In the hall, younger man is talking to a much older one, seated, explaining some artwork he‘s bought: “It is silly and ridiculous, so why not?”

4:10
A Derpy cosplayer gives me a somepony special envelope. I am not special enough, so I decide I will give it to Miss K; haven’t gotten her anything really nice.

4:12
A walk by the con office reveals the room almost cleaned out.
Con ops is closed up, the sign gone. I head back to the room to prep for packing and wait for the retrospective at 5:30

5:25
A requiem mass of some type is playing on the PA when I enter. Too much to talk about goes on: tearful testimonials, inspirational stories, strange humor, and a call to Wally in the Caribbean and a child saying they miss him. Dusty Katt sells more stuff, and the con ends up raising $36k+, more than BronyCon did. And in the end, a surprise announcement: The End... ?

7:10
Dusty Katt tells us to get the heck out, and a significant number of people head out to the Londoner pub. I am not with them, instead I opt for a quick beer and burger so I can pack. First to the room to change attire.

8:52
Heading back to the hotel. I will need to check in with the airline and get a boarding pass. Not sure if I can do it all electronically or if I should print a copy.

9:00
Back at the hotel, a tomb. The staff already has the place set up for some Geek Squad event. My flight home is about 24 hours from now.

9:33
Checked in with an mobile pass. Since I have over seven hours to hang out at the airport, I will try printing one at a kiosk. Time to pack.

10:00
Most things assembled for tomorrow, so I flesh out the notes I made here. Google search helps me get a title.
After posting, I will read for a bit. Maybe I can finish Hidden Giant tonight and pack it. Bel Canto is for tomorrow.
