You may have heard that I'm taking over for horizon with regards to Never the Final Word, his collection of story-continuing commentfics. If you haven't... well, I'm taking over for horizon on his collection of story-continuing commentfics. :derpytongue2:

Submissions are always open, so whenever you see or write a comment that builds on the story (or one that takes the ideas of the blog and turns them into a full narrative) be sure to PM me a link! I can't guarantee it'll get in—too short, too disrespectful, or too M-rated will be dealbreakers—but there are good odds of that nibble of inspiration getting far better visibility.

Never the Final Word (Vol. 2) just went live when I posted this blog. Here's hoping you all enjoy it and add to it.

I am annoyed. My first thought was "Now I can finally put Never the Final Word on my list for reading!"

Then I was all "Oh, wait, I haven't read hardly any of these stories. That's not gonna work..."

The thing about anthologies is that every chapter is technically a complete story in its own right. (More than complete in a certain sense.)

Well, shit. :B At least now I can finish the original!

Not the point. Every story is a reaction to another story. Another story which I haven't read, and so I would have no idea what the story is specifically reacting to.

Not exactly a good atmosphere for reviews.

Does my Unhinged entry/side-story for Georg's work count? :derpytongue2: Bugsydor suggested submitting it a couple of times, but it seems to be a grey area.

I tried to compensate for that in the format of the anthology (and FOME kept up the tradition). Each chapter has a little spoiler box at the top describing the original story, so if you haven't read the original and don't want to, you can get at least the basic context required to understand what the commentfic is riffing off of.

I think it's better to read the source story, of course. As a general rule, a story that has inspired a commentfic is going to be of sufficient quality to get readers' minds going.

I have no intention of reading some comentary fic if I haven't read its source material first.

Of course, if I just throw all those stories into my RiL it'll add a significant chunk of material to my already oversized list, so I'm in self-debating mode right now.

It took me a while to find this blog. I don't know if this is where I am supposed to post a submission for "Never the Final Word (Vol. 2)". There doesn't seem to be a Group and the story doesn't say where, just that there is... somewhere. Do I DM you or someone else? Do I post here? Because needing to skim through 70 (of 124!) pages of blog posts to find this one is quite the challenge.

Am I allowed to submit a story that I wrote for consideration? Am I suppose to write my own chapter for NtFW, or you, or someone else? I don't know what the ground rules are.

My story started as a blog post. Does this count as a valid submission because it started as a blog post?
Then I eventually made it into a story. Which I later expanded upon when there was interest for more. From fewer than 1,000 words to 21 chapters is a big jump.

Did I do the thing? Can I be a real boy now?

For future reference, DMs are fine. Apologies for making you dig this deep; I'll be sure to update the story description to clarify matters. :twilightsheepish:

That said, if it's already a story in its own right, there's no need to put in a different one. The anthology is just meant to collect minifics people post in the comments of other stories.

I see. Thanks for the clarification.
