An Overdue Decision · 3:33am Aug 25th, 2017
Greetings everyone! I apologize for my relative silence of late but life's been a bit nuts. I was away on vacation for a while and I've been having a touch of writer's block. I've mostly cleared that way but I've come to a decision that will delay the next update a bit longer. In short, I've decided to prioritize re-writing the first 6 to 8 chapters of Finding a Place before publishing the next chapter. If you'd like to know more about why the explanation is after the break.
Several recent comments on my story and PM conversations with a couple reviewers got me thinking. So, for the first time in ages, I re-read the first few chapters of the story with a more critical eye. I wasn't entirely pleased with what I found. There are two serious flaws that need to be rectified. First of all, I can do better now. I've spent nearly a year writing this story and I firmly believe the most recent chapters are better than my early work. The early chapters need to reflect that improved skill at least a little bit. Secondly, without giving away spoilers, there is one subtle but important plot point built into the early chapters that I need to make more apparent to readers. In one case, misinterpretation of that point is what drove turned someone away. What's obvious to the writer isn't necessarily obvious to the readers and that is a situation that harms the story in a severe way.
The good news is, the re-written chapters will not differ dramatically. If you hate rereading stories for whatever reason, don't worry! All the major events will stay the same and this update will not radically alter the story or events that happen in future chapters. When I am done, I intend to replace the text of the updated chapters, followed by immediately publishing the newest chapter that is very nearly complete. The updated chapters will be marked in a way that indicates they received a revision and I may touch up other early chapters in the future if this goes over well.
I do apologize for the already long delay but this has been a long time coming. I'm honestly proud of the story as it stands but it rests on a weak foundation that needs attention before I continue. I look forward to sharing more of the story and world with you soon. Thanks for your ongoing support and patience.
Good for you, Battlecat. Looking forward to reading more.
