    Potentially The End

Due to the suddenly VERY uncertain landscape that TTRPGs have been dropped into thanks to Wizards of The Coast and Hasbro, I am now faced with a problem.

For those of you who don't really pay attention to the world of Dungeons and Dragons, something of a war has begun. It is the fans vs. D&D owner and creator, Wizards of the Coast and, by proxy, Hasbro.

    The cause for the war?

    To the Surface!

Alright, I've been gone a long while. For the most part anyways. COVID... did not do me or mine any favors. Life got hard after it came in, and now I'm on my own.

    WWII

I have received a number of comments since the posting of Chapter 5 of Tartarus Forged. Most of those comments were respectful in asking why I would reference the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki like I did, and I thank you for that tact, but some of you... were not.

    It Started With An Idea

This is something that I've had running around my head for the last month or so. It's not something overly complicated, but about half-way through writing down this synopsis, I realized this had more potential than as just a fan-fic story. Alter a few key facts, such as ponies being involved... and I may have something I could genuinely turn into a book to one day be published.

MCIS · 6:51pm Jun 15th, 2017

Five hundred years ago tragedy befell the land of Equestria. The Sun did not rise one morning. Panicked and concerned over the potential reasons why their beloved Princess refused to raise the Sun, ponies flocked to the castle Princess Celestia lived in, only to discover a terrible scene.

Every single servant, guard, and aide was dead. There were no injuries or blood. It was as if everyone just decided to lay down and die. Fearful for their Princess, the ponies rushed to her chambers. Thankfully, Princess Celestia was alive. She was unconscious in her room. When the ponies woke her however, they discovered even more tragedy.

Princess Celestia, their leader for as long as any pony could remember, had lost all of her memories.

Five hundred years later, Equestria is vastly different than what it could have been. Technology has developed far beyond what any pony ever thought it would. Magic was fast becoming a lost art. And the Monarchy? Director Celestia is in charge of the MCIS, Military Criminal Investigative Service.

Twilight Sparkle, a standard cop in the CPD, the Canterlot Police Department, was well known to MCIS, having been flagged for potential recruitment when she single-hoofedly stopped a terrorist, Gilda the Iron Talon, from destroying the Royal Castle Museum, displaying a rather alarming affinity for magic in the process.

Celestia feels uneasy, as if she could feel a storm in the distance. Having been forced to rely on her instincts more than once thanks to the amnesia that still afflicts her, she follows her gut and offers Twilight the job.

And then… Twilight begins to dream of Princess Celestia.

I am an NCIS fanboy, I will not lie. I've been scratching my head for a while on how a crossover between NCIS and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic would be possible. Without applying a large suspension of belief within the characters of NCIS... it's not. But can a story be crafted that uses the NCIS formula? It took some thought, but this is my answer to that.

Again, I am unsure if I will ever actually do anything with the idea, but anyone is welcome to try their own hoof at it. Just link me in the summary as the original creator of the idea.

This could be interesting. I do know there was a story on this site that was a crossover but it hasn't been updated in a while.

Edit, here it is.

I have to say, this looks like it could DEFINITELY have potential. Somehow, I don't think Nightmare Moon would be as much of a threat in THIS universe, because technology will have probably developed to the point of the ponies developing weapons that would make the Elements of Harmony look like foals' toys.

And yeah, somehow, I could see this Twi being a ex-cop in this universe (since her dad and big brother would logically both be cops) as well as a pop-culture nut from reading too many books and seeing too many movies. Hopefully, though, she WON'T be a wise-cracking stallionizer (that part seems more in character for Rainbow Dash than Twi, regardless of the universe).

And, I don't know why, but I can see THIS Equestria being governed by a democratically elected council comprised of equal parts unicorn, Pegasus and Earth pony, but that's probably just me.

Sorry. Didn't mean to get off on a rant here. MY apologies again.

By all means! Feed the plot bunnies! Maybe I'll come up with a way to get this off the ground.

I really like this idea. NCIS is still an amazing show (even withouth Michael Weatherly) but the best episodes were with Tony, Ziva and McGee. Now I'm thinking about who would play the rest off the team. Caitlin could be played by nearly everypony and would be killed just a few chapters in (for shock-value choose some one from the mane 6).
Ziva could be... if you want to keep the team the Mane6 I would say Rainbow Dash or Spike, with my preference a little bit to Spike. Spike wouldn't be hatched by Twilight and instead grew up like a "normal" dragon, this could still give the comedic cultural differences but Spike (being a dragon) would still be a badass.
Wait, I have suddenly a briljant idea about what to do with McGee! Rainbow Dash is McGee, RD is obviously a closet geek in canon and in this new universe he didn't choose to want to become a superfast flyer but instead choose to become a superfast hacker. And while she isn't as fast or powerful as canon she can kick ass when needed. Off course she isn't a closet geek like canon but her being a geek is well known is this AU. She writes books under the pseudonym A.K. Yearling (as reference that the 2 are pallet-swaps of each other).
Mallard could be Applejack? I really don't know anymore. Applejack feels like a good choice so I will just follow my gut here. Palmer would be Fluttershy.
And now there are only 2 of the mane 6 left. Pinkie has to be Abby, cause who else can be Abby than Pinkie. Always happy, knows a lot of everything and is sometimes just plain weird. Pinkie could even be goth after Maud introduced her to it.
Rarity will be Director Shepard or Director Vance, she could fit in both roles. Stern when needed but knows when she has to trust the team...

Yeah. This is actually pretty well thought out. Thanks for sharing this.

Actually, Twi might work better as a mixture of Tony and Gibbs (i.e. Tony's police background [and, depending on how many books she reads and movies she has seen, pop culture knowledge], with Gibbs's more serious demeanor and leadership skills)

And, well, yeah, Rainbow could be MOSTLY McGee, but have enough Tony in her to be a wise-cracking stallionizer.

But, anyway, as I said before, this IS quite well thought out. :-D
