The most elegant sentence I've ever written. · 4:53pm May 30th, 2017
Apple Bloom was hoping the success would continue to pass all these potions that were a result of trying to get her cutie mark on to somepony else.
This sentence..... I'm in love with it. I'm in love with it and I want to make many foals with it. This is the most elegant sentence I have ever written.
It conveys excellently four different things:
1. Apple Bloom wants to give her potions away, because she made way too many of them while trying to get her cutie mark in potion mixing and now they feel like a burden to her.
2. She still loves her potions and does not suddenly hate them or something, because she knows that it was her mistake to make more than she can use herself and that the potions aren't at fault for it and because she is proud of her potion mixing talent and, therefore, proud of the potions that are the result of this talent, too.
3. That Apple Bloom is not simply giving away the potions for free, but sells them, via the usage of the neutral phrase "passing on" (as opposed to the word "sharing", which would indeed mean she gives them away for free).
4. That Apple Bloom wants that her talent of potion mixing is helping others and that she wants to be useful with her talent, by selling the plant growing potions she made to ponies who need them.
And all of this in a rather short sentence. This is now, for the first time ever, that I managed to express several different things in one sentence via "Show" and with absolutely no amount of "Tell" in it. I could even completely cut a sentence that came after this one, because it was telling what I'm now showing with this sentence already; that Apple Bloom made too many potions and is now sitting on them.
This is something that never happened before and I now have the feeling that I perfectionized my usage of "Show vs. Tell", or, did a huge leap with it at least. I'm so proud of this, I just needed to share this in a blog entry.
So, yeah, the revision of the first two chapters of "Journeys and Destinations: A Friendship for Eternity" goes swimmingly.
I agree, that really sounds elegant!
