Where I Hang My Hat XI: Fizztop Grille · 12:45am May 18th, 2017

art by RubleGun

(Warning: this blog will be exceptionally image-heavy. :rainbowderp: )

My next blog will again return to focusing on my Afterthoughts. Next up: “Fluttershy Leans In”. (I expect that blog will be unusually short for an Afterthoughts, so I intend to have it up sometime this weekend.)

In the meantime, while Fluttershy is building a dream animal sanctuary, my own Angel has been busy rebuilding her latest “settlement”: Fizztop Grille! Below the break, you will find my screenshot showcase of this new player home.

But first, some Fallout: Equestria news…

The Fifth Anniversary Printing of Fallout: Equestria has shipped and is now in the hands (or hooves) of hundreds of lucky, dedicated fans and readers. And this printing is gorgeous! :raritystarry:

The amount of love and dedication that the print team put into this edition is evident on every page. The gold-embossed leather cover, extremely thin pages (allowing the entire story to be printed in a single volume) and the gold page edging all make the book feel nearly biblical. There’s even a bookmark ribbon and a mysterious cookie recipe on the back inside cover.

The following pictures of the amazing third printing of Fallout: Equestria are courtesy of Whitepone. See the full resolution photos on his tumblr here!

The book is breathtakingly illustrated by the amazing Hobbes-Maxwell who also did the chapter art for the printing of Pink Eyes. Here are a few examples of his work for this third printing of Fallout: Equestria.

Please join me in giving him and the entire team at Absolutely Everything praise and congratulations on the magnificent work they have done with this!

Below the break: Fizztop Grille!

But first, a few shout-outs to Fallout: Equestria video series that I am watching. Strategic Jordan has started Chapter Thirty-One of the story. You can find the first two videos of this chapter hereand here. Powdered Milk has just finished the second arc. You can find his live reaction to “The Heart of Twilight Sparkle” here. Do note, this may be one of the last videos we see from him for a while, as he is about to begin a hiatus and get married! Congratulations, Powdered! And finally, Chris & Robert have just finished the first arc of the story in their “The Foally of Man” series. You can watch them talk about Chapter Twelve here.

I finished the “Nuka-World” DLC for Fallout 4 by slaughtering every last raider and turning the park over to the traders. After all of that, I didn’t want to just be left with a crappy, run-down park. I decided that Angel had to give it her settlement treatment. And I decided to focus on the “player home” that the DLC first gives you: Fizztop Grille.

The first step was to add a couple of vital mods. Starting with Nuka World Glory by SlacksNawfside cleans out the trash in Nuka World, including the raider elements and a lot of the scrap structures. Furthermore, it adds greenery, living trees, and a handful of new decorations to make the place feel like it is returning to glory. In the screenshot above, you can see some of the plants as well as the beautifully restored fountain which is thanks to this mod. (The mod isn’t perfect, and there are several issues such as objects which were overlooked or left floating. But it does so much that I’m happy to overlook or deal with the minor faults.)

“Nuka World” gave you the Fizztop Grille as a place that was “yours”… technically. However, while you could sleep there, you wouldn’t want to. The place was filthy and trashed, telling you nothing pleasant about the previous Overboss. And despite being nominally a player home, the DLC didn’t bother to include a workbench, so you couldn’t fix the place up to your tastes, much less turn it into a settlement. So the second vital mod was Fizztop Grille - Settlement Ready by TheFinalRender.

While that second mod cleans the place up a bit and adds a workshop so you can craft the place into the home you want, Fizztop Grille isn’t a real settlement. You cannot send or draw settlers to the location. (Even if you spawn one with the console, you cannot assign them to anything and they will just wander off.) But we can pretend it is one: newly refurbished and just waiting to be staffed.

Creating this place involved several new things for me, including using the console command “spawndupe” to replace a few mysteriously missing architectural bits (which I think were accidentally deleted by the first mod above), digging into unused worldspace, combining furniture pieces, and using timed switches. In relation to the last, a final mod that was added just for this “settlement” was Better settlement traps by polivilas.

The first step in (re)building Fizztop Grille was to continue rebuilding and revitalizing parts of the area around Fizztop Mountain. Here, Angel replaced the bathroom windows, torn posters and non-working lights. Additionally, she replaced the clock on the bathroom clocktower with an unbroken, Nuka-themed one. (The clock even glows red thanks to a red spotlight that I affixed in the sky directly in front of it then shrank down to the size of a pea. :pinkiehappy: ) Below shows some basic remodeling inside as well.

The empty vendor space above was transformed into a weapons shop.

The structure below was rebuilt before turning it into a clothing shop for Nuka World fashions.

The next focus was to build a structure around the lift that takes people up to the broken front of Fizztop Grille. The plan was to make it fit with the rest of

Nuka World while looking very "rock-star". Flamethrowers on a timer to spew flames every ten seconds. Panning, colored spotlights complete the effect.

At the base of the lift is a small station for people to enjoy themselves as they wait.

On either side of the lift station are vendor huts, one for Nuka-Cola (in all its varieties) and the other selling Nuka-World souvenirs.

The huts are topped with elevated nuka-cap platforms where you can enjoy a view with your drink.

When the lift reaches Fizztop Grille, guests are treated to a beautiful view of Nuka World from the balcony.

Angel has turned the Fizztop Grille into a home with an eye on entertaining.

The interior of the rennovated Fizztop Grille is dominated by a pool and fountain. Built into a side of the pool is a thematic fire pit.

(Design note: the nuka clock over the entrance hides a miniturized generator. Also: note above the blue and brown double doors on the back wall.

Originally, Fizztop Grille only had one set of doors on that wall, leading via loadscreen into an interior space.)

Fizztop Grille now features a new, fully-stocked kitchen and multiple dining area and lounging options.

(Warning: full-sized version of the below image includes a few NSFW pixels.)

Angel's fancy black desk was created from multiple other pieces of furniture.

To the right of the desk, almost entirely hidden from view here, is an area with mini crafting stations.

(Design note: the new, second set of double-doors leads to an entirely new area carved out of unused game-space to create the expansion in the next several screenshots.)

The hallway behind the main room of the Fizztop Grill includes a cozy reading nook.

(The brown doors above represent the route into the interior space that the blue double doors on the main room actually provide.)

A stairwell rises from the back hall to the upper house of the Fizztop Grille. Small area around and beneath the stairwell are used for storage.

The upper house commands a beautiful view of the "mountain".

The upper house opens onto a rooftop party patio, complete with a small dance floor and barbecue roast pit.

(Design note: over half of the original roof was removed to create this space.)

Below: a fun view looking into the upper house from the rooftop.

Fizztop Grille at night.

This will probably be my last "Where I Hang My Hat" blog post for the foreseeable future. I'm sure I'll do another when I finally play through "Far Harbor". But that will be a while. In the very least, not until I finish Prey.

I'm not sure I share your taste in posters, but holy cow is that ever breathtaking. Have you ever considered interior (or exterior) design?

4536692 Yes, actually. I majored in Architecture for three years before switching to Art. :raritywink:

I haven't gotten my book yet, sadly..... Someone wrote my address only incompletely on the package and my mail service here in Austria refused to send it to me again after I called and told them the correct address, so now it's on the way back into the USA. :fluttershysad:
I already sent an e-mail to the team about that and probably have to pay shipping again..... But that will be worth it. I need this book, even though I'm only at Chapter 7 now.
But I'm afraid the book will get damaged during delivery and the longer it takes for me to get it, the higher the risk is. :fluttershysad:

Cool! That makes me feel a little better about how beautiful your settlements are compared to mine :twilightblush:

Sounds kind of sad that you can't give Nuka world the Settlement treatment without mods. Considering one of the main quests is to take over settlements in the commonwealth, it feels like a missed opportunity for Bethesda to allow you to stick it over the Raiders when you build your new settlement over their dead bodies.

But you at least found mods to help with that. The last image really makes the scene look nice at night. Also the working fountain setup does have a nice look to it. Nice little reader cove you have there.

The book does look good with all it's art. It really does look like they really put a whole lot of effort this printing of the book.

As absolutely beautiful as that book is and despite how much I want one, I'm having a hard time justifying the $85 price tag, especially right now. How long are they going to be available?

Well, first, congrats on the book sale:twilightsmile: Mind you, I don't much care for the idea of monopolizing on others works, and yes I am aware you don't take a red cent from its sale, but still, regardless, actually publishing a short story in an omnibus is difficult, so going for a story like fe must be more so. Kudos to the printers who did so as well.

<Looks at paintings> huh...

Isn't angel straight? I mean... she had a man and child, so... eh, I guess the female form is tasteful in the view of the artsy:trixieshiftright:

:trollestia:

Say Kkat, if you have time, I'd like to discuss art with you later, if that would be all right.

Also, which prey?

Wait a minute...
Pacce, the author of chapter 20.5 and Anywhere but Here... Is Piecee/Whitepone?

4536906 I may be confused. :applejackunsure:

4536889 Congratulations goes to them, not me. As for Angel, she's bisexual.

4536912
Ah okay.

Oh come now kkat, if there wasn't a you there wouldn't be a novel to print!

I may be confused.

Not a day goes by that I don't feel the same way

Nice to see someone's still playing Fallout 4, I accidentally modded my copy to the point of breaking.

Just wondering if there is, when is the next fallout equestria printing and where should I look to get it?

I got my Fo:E hardcover just last week. It truly is beautiful.

And geez! Your settlement is hardly even recognizably Fallout anymore!

(agh) i missed the printing, NOOOOOO!!! does anyone know when the next one well be?? if so please tell, i really want a copy...or two :rainbowwild:

Ooh, those are some gorgeous interior illustrations.

Where can I get ahold of such a fabulous book???

Heh, Red Eye on the top of this blog.
The book is stunningly beautiful and as are the screenshots. So that is what Nuka World looks like with mods and abundant dedication. The right mods for the job and you can create something like that. That is wonderful.

Received my copy about a week ago, and it is B, E, A, Utiful. I was also wondering about the Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe, I'm not a good baker or I would have tried the recipe already. Lol.

Nuka-World never looked so good!

4537421 Probably never been safer, either. Considering their minimal safety standards back in the day.:twilightsheepish:

4537441
Well, I mean, it was only minimal for the guests.

I'm sure the important muckity mucks were safe as safe could be!

4537447 I don't know, seemed like the word "Important" was probably on a very short list back then.

Holy smokes, those illustrations in the book look stunning and amazing!

And those pics of Fizztop Grille look incredible. The interior designs really makes you feel at home. Yet again, Nuka-World can be much safer with those raiders gone. Raiders in a theme park, yeeesh. Talk about fun park of horrors. XD

4537565
Well of course it was! Can't just have anyone being labeled "Important" just the truly "Important" ones!

4537187
You had to order one back in like January. Sorry!

4537094
It probably won't be for a long while if they do another one. They've already committed to doing Project Horizons next, which they think will take all year to get ready, then they want to do something different, like Murky or a second Pink Eyes print
