The Tale as Old as Time...IS BETTER THAN EVER!!! (SPOILER FREE REVIEW) · 8:58pm Mar 18th, 2017

I just got back from seeing the new "Beauty and the Beast" movie...

AND SWEET CELESTIA IT WAS WORTH IT! It had everything that made the original great, but added SO much more that made it even BETTER! Of course, I'll always love the animated version, but this film made the story its own! Emma Watson is a terrific actress, Dan Stevens' solo song is one I'll be listening to over and over for days, and thanks to Josh Gad, Lefou is now one of my favorite side characters. The set, the costumes, and of course Alan Menken's beautiful music were all amazing! Menken, as usual, writes beautiful songs. The new ones were lovely additions. I still dream about Belle's ballgown, which was brought to life beautifully in this film!

It may be slightly different. Perhaps some parts from the original were omitted (although they DID fix many of the plot holes), but I didn't expect it to be a carbon copy. I've waited years for there to be a live-action "Beauty and the Beast" I could adore almost as much as the animated, if not more. See, other studios have attempted it, whether for the big screen or television, but they never ever quite did it for me. It was even better than I'd imagined! And I'm thrilled that they even made references to the original fairy tale (I studied this story in a college course). Good on you, Disney. I may not approve of some of the other live-action projects you have planned, but let's hope they are as amazing as this one.

what are the other ones coming out? the little mermaid right?

Would you think it would be better than your "Discordverse" stories?

First time I've heard something positive from a review.

I love my princess! This gurl means the world to me... no, the universe... NO, the multiverse!

The only thing I hate about this movie is how they keep saying that this version of LeFou is the first openly-gay Disney character.
He isn't! It's Hugo the gargoyle and Djali the goat from the first and second Hunchback of Notre Dame movies!

Meh, I still don't like the beast and enchanted objects designs (to uncanny for my taste >.>) but I won't get in the at if you said it was great

I Wanna see that

Well I was never a fan of Beauty and the Beast. But then I heard the name Emma Watson.

Me and my sister: HERMIONE! HERMIONE! HERMIONE!!!!!

4461776 LOL, for a minute I thought u were gonna say something homophobic. U should know they handled that part well in this movie.

I loved it too! And I saw it on my Birthday!

I can agree with you there DF!!! Just saw it last night with my aunt and uncle and in my oppinion it was better than the animation (no offence) thou 'Bueaty and the Beast' isn't my fav Disney movie, it was still nice to watch how they turned a beast and some magically talking objects come to life! It was sooo good especially the ballroom dance:pinkiehappy:

I think it's good, but unlike the Jungle Book (which, aside of the unbalanced character appearences and that AWFUL ending, it's better than the original), this one's not only inferior, but it feels unnecessary.

Have you seen the live action Cinderella and The Jungle Book too?

I am glad to hear you say it is so good. A few friends and I are going to see it on Tuesday and we are SO excited! :pinkiehappy: Was a little concerned with the part with LeFou being gay *cough* not saying I am against those kind of relationships, hay I have gay characters in my own stories, but some of my friends might not be as comfortable with it.)
Though speaking of, did you hear that in Russia, they gave BatB a 16+ rating because of 'fears of the gay moment'? Heard it on the news the other day and was SHOCKED. But then it is Russia.... (no offense intended to any Russians that might be here.)

4462398 That's because homosexuality's still illegal in Russia, though from what I could figure from the theatre that I was in, that "gay moment" goes right over kids' heads.

4462410
So yeah Russia just seeing the movie through adult eyes. (I mean, how often do we go back now to some of our favorite Disney films and see all the things we missed as kids?)

It was great they included backstories on some of the characters, giving them more detail

Wish they did better with the enchanted objects designs and the sizing of the rooms

Aw I haven't been able to get around to watching it yet :fluttercry:
Glad I can hear nice things about it though, not every single Disney remake has been as good as the originals. The best remake I can think of is the Jungle Book from last year, and with all the negativity that's been going around, just because Emma Watson is playing as Belle and there is a gay character in it (:facehoof: some people just can't enjoy a movie for the story can they?), its really put a damper on my enthusiasm for this movie, and Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney Princess movies. Have you seen all the comments putting Emma Watson down for being a bad actress: its like none of them watched Harry Potter!
But I'm glad that the movie is worth it, I definitely have to get round to watching it . Maybe there's hope for the upcoming Lion King remake to be good too? From what I've seen, lately the remakes seem to be getting better, they started off decent and are gradually improving.

I'm actually planning on posting a fanfiction I'm writing based on Beauty and the Beast called "Tale as Old as Time." I'll be a humanized Sparity fic and it will be based on both movies of BatB and the author Flimflambros' "Beauty and her Spike." I hope you will give it a look once it's posted and tell me what you think. I hope to see the live-action movie soon.

I loved the new movie it actually made me want to go and watch the original again (as well as read your Bride of Discord story). I have just been listening to the soundtrack all day.

I'm so jealous right now, it hasn't come out where I live :fluttercry:

I saw it last night. It's a completely utterly wonderful film. :raritystarry: :pinkiehappy:

I'm actually writing my own "BatH" mlp fic. It will actually be entitled "Tale as Old as Time." I got the inspiration from some artwork someone did with Rarity as Belle and a dragon Spike his dream self from "A Dog and Pony Show") as the Beast. Obviously, it will be a Sparity story (with a slight dash of FlashLight and CheesePie). It will also be a combo of the animated one and the live-action one with a chapter dedicated to "The Enchanted Christmas." I don't know when the first chapter will be posted exactly, but hopefully by my birthday (7/3). Hope you'll like it.

P.S. I noticed that you have not done a lot on your "Princess and the Unicorn" story. I can understand that since now that you're a SunLight fan, it would be tough to continue a fic mostly centering on a pairing your not that much of a fan of anymore. Is it possible I could adopt it? I have tons of funny and cool ideas for Twi and Dawn's misadventures as each other. Plus, I'm a big FlashLight shipper.

Sorry, this has nothing to be with Beauty and the Beast. I just wanted to ask you about Zany and Twinkle. I've been writing a story based on the DoD universe. The romance is more focused on Jewel and Applespike , though I do explore Zany and Twinkle's budding relationship.
Also, have you ever seen a movie called "The Apple Dumpling Gang"? I saw it when I was a kid. I tried retelling the story to my daughter and I couldn't help but think about how the story could translate into Equestria.
