test run of crossover chapter poll · 8:42am Mar 11th, 2017
Okay, seeing as both negative and postive feedback has come from my latest chapter, the crossover chapter, i have a poll for you all.
Should i scrap any and all crossover ideas for Call of a Raven and just go with my own story, contained within it's own Equestria?
Say either yes or know, prefferably with a reason for your answer. depending on the outcome by either tomorrow or monday morning (monday here in aus, that is) i'll chose whether to go along with crossover chapters, few as they will be, for my story, or just keep my story as a single contained universe.
I await your answers
own story. a lot of the crossover storoes ive read jusr get plain goofy when they crossover.
Yup, as stated under the chapter i'll vote against a crossover. Hope the new chapters don't disappoint
Greetings from germany. Nordic

4451423 I agree. Keep the story on its own.
Sorry to say but in my experience displaced crossovers tend to drop the story quality and when the tendency is somewhere around 90% of the time, it gets really tiresome. A story might survive the displacement introductory chapters (1-2 chapters where the MC learns about the displacers etc.), but going beyond those usually kills its own plot and replaces it with some sort of dick measuring contest between authors. Not to mention that the writing quality tends to drop to the lowest common denominator between the crossed over stories and then starts using that line as a jumprope.
Nowdays I have learned to see the 3rd crossover chapter, it's time to bury the story and get away from it.
Sorry for the rant. And I don't mean to insult with my opinion on crossovers. It is just that I have seen so many, otherwise decent enough, stories ruined by the overabundance of crossovers.
The main reason why the majority of Displaced stories have crossover elements is because they'd get kicked out of the group otherwise. Apparently at their heart Displaced are "stories capable of crossovers", so anyone who cares whether their story is an "official" Displaced needs to include certain things on a regular basis. Personally, I think that's bullshit and you should be free to write a story using the Displaced formula without any of that.
Tldr: Only include crossovers if you want to, not because it's expected of you.
It's own story Please.
I am actually a bit split about this. On one hand i know crossover with other stories can work amazingly well with one and another.... on the other hand...... well let's just say they didn't survie long
When it comes down to it i just don't want you to risk it but ultimately it is your choice
A closed realm would be nice.
some smaller displaced stories i have read lost sight of creating a thrilling story in place of, how many displaced super power hand outs they could get the OC to have or equip.
I'm fine with crossovers, they just have to be done well. Something that (as stated by basically everyone else) doesn't seem to happen very often. I've seen a number of good crossovers, but that was back when Displaced was in it's massive 'boom' stage. With as much content as was being made, a number of fresh stand-outs were chugging along too. What I'm saying really, is never lose sight of your story for a crossover, and make sure to consider the quality of someone else's work very critically before saying yes to anything.

That, and there's also the fact that with more stories being made at the time, authors had greater chances of finding stories that would mesh well with their own.
I´d say, either let it stay a non-crossover or if you really, REALLY want to (and can deliever quality), do a single crossover with a single other author (maybe with one or two reoccuring appearances over the course of your story).
Having to many crossover can totaly derail any ideas you had for your story and lead to driving straight into a wall where it dies a undeserving death. All kinds of complications can happend, specially when you incorporate another Displaced as a part of your story and then, the story of said Displaced gets cancelled or stays in hiatius forever. As many others before me said correctly, crossovers can be seen as some sort of childhood disease in the Displaced community and can break your story but it is ultimativley up to you if you use the mechanic or not. But if you do, you should be prepared to go down the road you choose to the very end with all your determination.
I know, I learned that the very hard way with my own Displaced story, which I nearly lost the will to write on.
4451464 Truer words have never been said.
I would say too many crossover make it very hard to keep the story stick. Create your own story make it unique and more interesting to read.
no
the crossover chapter was vary good Raven stopped needles slater and this defiantly fits with FIM and the meaning behind it.
I say rock on.
edit and PS
I have followed several of AB story's he is vary good at doing cross over story's and he knows ware to not go.
trust I trust AB to make this all work.
I do not usually like crossover stories with Displaced especially.
Yes, because I think it could lead to some interesting things happening.
I say keep the crossover aspect but make sure the crossovers can make sense with the events of the story. Also where is chapter 9 at? I got an email for it and 8 but 9 is nowhere to be found.
4451438 Totally agree with you on this. Also, one of the worst aspects I've noticed is the tendency to use those crossovers as mcguffins or as a source of deus ex machina, either because the author wrote themselves into a corner, or they REALLY want to make the crossover characters seem relevant and important.
4451774 Chapter 9 was the crossover test. The author took it down before making this blogpost.
4451961 I see. Good to know.
4451533 if you're referring to the chapter with the pinkie clones, that wasn't the crossover chapter. that was involing a displaced raven from the Justice League vs Teen Titans movie.
