Hey, guys and welcome back to another Fandom Music Friday. This week has been mercifully light here at school, and I've made some pretty good progress towards that final chapter of History Lesson. What music have I been writing to lately? I'm glad you asked...
Have you ever seen on sheet music right next to the treble/bass clef there's sometimes flats and hashtags sharps there? Well, that's called the key signature. Without getting too complicated, the most popular keys are either major or minor. Major keys typically sound happy and minor keys typically sound sad or dramatic. What happens when you take a song set in major and put it in minor? This happens:
Pretty trippy, huh? AP has self-renamed this piece "By Order from the Ministry of Morale, Smile" or alternately, "Why So Cranky?" AP has several of these major-to-minor songs on their channel, but unfortunately, the last upload was three years ago. Still, their songs and other works are up for you to go check out.
Ok, that's great. But what why listen to minor music? Again, thank you for asking. We're going to have a little fun with this piece of music by dubbing it over a scene from one of the episodes. Here's how:
1) If you've started listening to the song, pause it at 15 seconds.
2) Open the video below in a new tab. Immediately pause it and adjust the volume to about 60%.
3) Click play on the Smile Song.
4) When the Smile Song gets to 25 seconds, start the video below.
5) Prepare to be amazed.
And yes, there is a definite reason why I'm listening to this style of music while writing this chapter.
