All Art Is Quite Useless

When I'm not writing stories, I'm writing essays. My keyboard sees fairly frequent use. University student, high functioning Rainbow Dash enthusiast, and satirical activist.

Ramblings of a Relatively New Author · 10:59pm Jan 30th, 2017

First thing I wanna say is that since joining this site, I've found that other users are generally very friendly and helpful, which is just awesome. If I had known that being a part of this site would be such a great experience I would have joined sooner.

Starting my first story has been nerve wracking, especially as it is in no way what I expected to be writing. When I signed up, I had quite a few ideas in my head for fics, some of which I will definitely implement in future, but Big Tavi Lil Tavi Cardboard Box was not one of them. When the concept entered my mind, it was fun and basic, and I didn't take it seriously, not in the slightest. In my head, I envisioned a 2000-3000 word silly, random fustercluck, and thought that it would play out that way on paper also. A silly little oneshot to make a little mark on the site and draw some attention to myself, I imagined it would be.

Then I started writing it, and the ideas just kept coming. Yeah, I've had to dismiss a few, but some of them I've actually impressed myself with, somewhat at least. Because of this, when I reached the end of the first chapter (which only contained about 40% of what it was originally going to) I just kept writing, moreover, the idea kept growing, and became something deeper and more intricate. I've by no means run out of steam for the story, and doubt I will any time soon, I'm really enjoying it.

Then the feedback started. This has easily been the most fulfilling part of publishing my work on this site. (apart from the writing itself) Hearing people's criticisms and compliments as well as being able to discuss things with everyone has been excellent, and has motivated me to take my story more seriously. It feels like I owe it to everyone who has become invested in my writing to update often, to answer questions to the best of my ability, and to try to make my writing the best I can, in exchange for all of you giving me a chance to entertain. Even those with a passing interest who just might happen to glance at my writing deserve not to be let down, so I'm going to try my best to not make writing this all about me.

This doesn't mean I'm going to let users dictate where I can and can't take my story, but any suggestions can easily be taken into consideration as nothing is set in stone until it has been written. But I'm not just going to make this a shipfic or whatever cause some random guy says to do so. If anyone ever does have a suggestion for one of my in progress fics though, PM me! I can't guarantee I'll agree with your idea or proposal, but I'll definitely consider it! Let me know.

Anyways, six chapters into my first story, and I'm happy with my progress. I'll try my best to keep it up.
