Testing Out Commissions · 12:00pm Jan 30th, 2017
Hey everybody, I’ve decided to try out doing a few commissions and seeing if anyone would be interested. Unfortunately, some personal stuff came up, and I need to make a few extra bucks to pay for some unexpected expenses. That aside, I’ve been thinking of doing commissions for a while both as a way to make a little extra money and to sharpen my writing skills, sort of like working with prompts, you know? The problem was I was never really sure how many people would actually be interested, so this is basically me testing out the commission-waters. Ahoy!
So let’s talk subject matter and prices and stuff all in the form of a handy-dandy FAQ.
Are you willing to write anything, and I mean anything?
I’m more than willing to do NSFW and SFW stuff (scandalous, I know), and I’m willing to write about most niche subjects. Just drop me a PM if you want to know if I’m willing to write about something in particular. No judgement, promise.
What’s the process?
Well, I’m a strong believer in being straightforward with people, and I prefer it when people are straightforward with me. If you’re interested in a commission, just send me a PM with what you want me to write. I’ll probably ask you a few questions to make sure I know exactly what you want, I’ll most likely accept (very rarely decline), and we’ll go from there.
What are your prices and how will the transaction be done?
I’m starting out by charging $10 per 1,000 words. This breaks down to $0.01 per word. For all commissions, the first $10 will be given upfront as a sort of down payment. All transactions will be done via Paypal to keep things simple.
What’s your turnaround time?
That depends purely on the length of the work. Usually, a 1,000 word commission will be done in about a week. Something in the 5,000 to 8,000 range will take about 5 to 7 weeks. In the unlikely case that a lot of people will want commissions, the turnaround time will increase. Once completed, you’ll be able to have a look at a draft via Google Docs in order to ask for changes and/or give final approval. Once you give approval, I’ll post the story on Fimfiction (or not, if you don’t want me to). I can also provide an RTF, TXT, or EPub file upon request.
Cool, but how will I know how long the story will be and how much I’ll end up paying?
Figuring out the exact length of a story before it’s finished is a little tricky. But there are ways to make sure we stay on budget. The length of the story will mostly depend on how much you want included in it (how many scenes, how many characters, etc). Once I accept a commission, I’ll give you a rather bare bones outline of what the story will contain (which I’ll figure out by talking to you) and a quote for how long the story will be and how much it will cost. If I go over this quote, you will not have to pay for any extra words. If I go under this quote, you will only pay for the amount of actual words written.
Don’t you have a Patreon? Why are you doing commissions too?
I’m very grateful to the people kind enough to support me on Patreon. A little note on how my Patreon works: my patrons pay me when I publish a new story or chapter. The greatest difference between Patreon and commissions is that my patrons pay me for what I want to write, they have put their faith in me and my writing while having no control over what I write. People who commission me, however, are paying me for writing what they want me to write, which I am absolutely happy to do. I will not, I repeat, I will not be charging my patrons with every published commission.
That’s about it. If you have a question I didn’t answer or want some clarification or just want to tell me I’m plain crazy, leave a comment below.
You are being incredibly generous. People will generally pay double for what you are offering...
But that's just my two cents.

If you're doing it right, it'll get you erotica.
Like, right?
Gah, wish I had some extra moolah... actually got an idea involving Big Mac that I know I wouldn't be able to do justice for. :( Oh well... good luck to ya, Ivory Piano!
Still taking them? I miss your stories.
