After much longer than I thought it would take, I have completed a second novella. I’m very happy! Also tired!
I guess it’s become fairly evident now that I love Lyra and Bon Bon. (In a platonic sense. Man, I wish I had what those two have.) I knew this origin story was going to be fairly long, but I enjoyed writing for these two so much, every section wound up being significantly longer than my outline implied it would be.
Which just means that most people are going to see the 50,000+ word count and not want to put that much time into reading it. And several of the people who do start reading it are going to do so based on the Romance tag, then downvote the story because Lyra doesn’t even show up until chapter four. I’m setting myself up for failure!
If, by some slim chance, you fall into one of those two groups of people and you happen to be reading this blog post, all I can say is that I’m proud of the story. I enjoyed writing it / reading it over again during the editing phase, and I hope that folks who are willing to take a chance on this story find something to like about it, too.
As I said, I’ve developed quite the fondness for Lyra and Bon Bon. I have another novella that I really want to write (it takes place after Lyra’s Journey and builds on both that story and this one), so eventually, I’ll start working on that. In the meantime, I’m going to take a short break, then maybe knock out one or two one-shot ideas that I’ve had. After all of that… who knows. I actually have even more that I’d like to do with these two characters, but I’m going to see how I feel after I publish the third novella.
But that’s all in the future. For now, please enjoy My True Self.
