HOLY COW, I didn't think I'd ever get this much of her design down. Needless to say she is not quite what I had originally invisioned when I first made this story. In some ways she is a lot more like the ship she was inspired by (the Cleveland Class Cruiser). I had originally intended she just have 6 guns in 3 turrets (2 fore, 1 aft, mirrored) in the end I went with the original triple gun turrets, and had 2 aft, 2 fore (mirrored on the bottom) pushing her total to 24 guns.

I'm actually nearing completion. Don'tcha worry, I'm working on the next chapter already. Hopefully this won't take as long as the last one.

She will have ALL THE GUNSSS!!!!!!!!!

Take out both the sea-plane retrieval cranes at the rear. They just have no purpose on a space vessel.

4313241 WWII ships were really just massive AA installations at sea. The Cleveland had so much AA fire that she was never succesfully sunk by air attack.

Cranes are increadbly useful in space. Docking the Shuttle is a nightmare of powered manouvering logistics. Docking the Dragon is waiting til its in reach, grabbing it with the articulated arm, then hauling it in. Also, solid linkages start to do orbital matching on connection in both compression and tension, where cable hauling can lead to extremely nasty overshoots and slingshots. With care, you can combine arms and cable, but you have to remember the constant tension mechanism, cos as soon as that cable comes loose, it unwraps from the pulleys and recoils in the mechanism. Theres actually a 3D printer which uses the method to make complex multiloop patterns, now they found the maths governing the behaviour.

At least she wasnt Habbakuk class. Those guys had an Awful lot of close defense, even though you would need heavy artillery bombardment or low level nukes to properly damage them. :moustache:

4313383 and I love you for how you designed this ship. Seriously, almost every ship design in sci-fi I've seen follows the "body wrapped around a single all powerful gun" it's practically bored me to tears. I want less Mass Effect Normandy/Halo Pillar of Autumn (though the UNSC Infinity gets a pass because it drops warships, WARSHIPS, from its hull. WARSHIPS MAN!!!), and more Star Wars Star Destroyers/Battlestar Galactica's namesake (turtle ship rules!)

So the fact you've gone Space Battleship Yamato, I just love you for it all.

It's not that I will or will not have cranes, it's simply that other than her engiens themselves, I have no idea what I'm going to do with that part of the ship, and before I even get to it I need to decide whether or not to keep her 20mm autocannons as CIWS

4313472 it's not that there isn't BFGs in this setting, it's just that those are all installations in space, or ground based artillery, with enough power to actually have a ROF to them.

In this setting, the usual shield can always defeat the first shot, no matter how big, or fast, or powerful. It's something rather unique (I think) to the space outside of Equestria's star system. it's why most ships don't have big hull mount weapons (not to mention the difficulty in aiming such a thing). It's that a ship based reactor is already stretched pretty thin, and powering something that large would have an abysmall ROF, mediocre accuracy, and thus do very little actual damage unless saved until late into the fight.

Even then, most ships can have their front half torn off and still fight.

That's a robotic manipulator arm though, not a pulley system made for use with gravity in a fixed direction relative to the crane base.

Sorry here's a puppy to make you feel better *unlocks the door of a shipping container*

"As you can see he is vary rare breed"

*gerrrrr*

"I think he likes you"

4313695 Heh, that's nothing. You should meet the Imperial war wolves. Bulletproof kevlar fur. Large enough to be rode, and strong enough to carry a Stjornhuskarl once they have been given their implants.

Helps make up for the fact that every single other animal in North Star space is domesticated.

4313695 Which fleet are you nova of?

I realised something that might match after transformation to tow, anchor, docking arms.. Her Mane And Tail? Lets them be flexible with manipulation capability without being limb strength? Or how are her limbs handles?

4314380 her... limb handles?

4314641

Sorry, i forgot what teh original description was, that lead to her having flexible manipulable appendages in the first place. Her legs etc, apart from reality transformation of drives and thrusters?

4314701 Not sure. Her mainthrusters are wings.

4314241 A secret order determined to protect humanity from outside influence until they have reached a sufficient technological maturity. Part of this includes temporally calming territory around the sol system that will allow the rest of humanity the raw resources to become a true powerhouse when they finally expand into these star systems.
This means we do not colonize any worlds. The only planets we hold are our three grand shipyards which are a result of our experiments in Astroengineering (as in the planet is man made) and are capable of movement at a extreme cost of resources. A Grand ship yard is different form our regular shipyards in that it is capable of the mass-production of capital ships an is extremely fortified with massive anti capital ship plasma cannons hidden inside mountains and in the lakes and oceans. In addition to the ship construction facilities are weapon and vehicle factories located between the crust and the mantle protected by the sheer bulk of material above it (its essentially a cleaner more environmentally friendly version of a Warhammer 40k forge world that's built with the planet) and command facilities near the core. As you can guess the Grand shipyards are our most valuable assets that we would fight tooth and nail to protect.

On earlier notes first the technological maturity of humanity the primary milestone we would be looking for is the development of FTL flight capability. After that the Orders primary goal would shift to prepare a war that we hope will never come (for example the situation with Reapers in Mass Effect or the Covenant and halo rings in Halo, essentially galactic wide conflicts that are a matter of life or death for entire species.

Second while we are a secret order to humanity until they leave the Sol System we have Reputation with the rest of the galaxy as the both the most fiercest and most technological advanced fighting force in Galaxy and as masters of ship to ship combat tactics.

Third while the founding members and a majority of the Order are Humans not all members are.

Another fun fact several classes of ships are completely crewed by AIs essentially making them drone ships, a master AI with the largest processing capacity that functions as a captain and a crew of ancillary AIs for discussion and Advising that serve as officers. The most notable of the these is the clockwork class frigate notable for its moving holographic clockwork gear hull art.

Sorry for rambling sometimes I get real in to it when describing these things. Really I could build a whole faction for a world with the amount of ideas I've worked out for this "Order of the Galactic Shield" formerly "Order of the White Ship" (I changed the name because the symbol for it is easier to visualize *A spiral galaxy on a heater type shield*

I can go on and describe more, after all its been my pet fantasy since I was at least fifteen so I have had time to refine it, but it is late.

4315307 you can drop it into a pm. Not the bestest place for it.

4315307 Would love y'all's input on the latest blog.
