Hmm, hard to say. If it's just a normal story, then ponies.

Anthro is best for sexy times and for people who have a hard time writing quadrupeds, but still want to retain some of that pony-ness.

I'm more towards anthro, but that's mostly because I have an easier time writing action scenes, and the like in them.

I'm not opposed to pony though, but anthro provides me a more easily usable narrative for what I want.

Plus, some kinds of animals don't work as well, when I go Pure Pony.

Anthro is fine depending on how far up or down you go with said anthropomorphism.
Then again if you speaking from a story only standpoint, then pony for sure. If art, so long as its done well I dont care either way.

I like pony better because it stays true to the source material, and it is easier to read (don't need a paragraph to describe clothing in every scene) but it won't stop me from reading a good anthro story. I'll just pretend they are ponies and ignore any non-pony descriptions and mentally rewrite any fun scenes.
