*UPDATE* Yesterday's Emergency · 12:27am Nov 7th, 2016
I just wanted to give everyone an update to yesterday's abrupt blog about my dog Darcy hurting herself and Bubble and I taking her to the emergency vet.
This was taken while we were waiting on the doc to come out with the meds.
Darcy is a 9 month old toy poodle. While we were out doing errands, she somehow got herself tangled up in the draw string for a set of window blinds, wrapping it around her left rear leg and cutting off circulation right above her knee. We feared the worse and that we might be looking at an amputation situation. While we aren't 100% out of the woods, it looks like Darcy isn't going to gain the 'three legged' condition just yet.
Monday, she is going to see her regular vet for xrays to make sure there aren't any dislocations or fractures we need to worry about. So far, Darcy has been resting easy in a nice comfy crate where the other dogs can't bother her and she is unlikely to accidentally aggravate her condition. Her paw and lower leg are already almost back to normal and she's able to bear her weight on the leg, but we're a little concerned that her knee might have partially dislocated when she was struggling with the bind.
The takeaway is that we were lucky to find her in time to save her before there was any major tissue death. I'm also immensely grateful for the emergency vet's services, but damn if that place isn't a financial black hole. I'm hopefully from Darcy's recovery so far that she will come away from this with nothing worse than a limp.
I'm really happy that your puppy should be okay.

Me too! Darcy is a very sweet and well behaved dog, so her getting into this was a complete surprise. Now we just have to keep little miss playful from jumping around and re-hurting herself until it's all healed up.

Yeah. The emergency vet has never done us a disservice the few times we've HAD to use them, but the costs skyrocket and emergencies have a way of hitting not only when the regular vet is closed, but we are running low on funds. We were able to swallow the cost of the visit and medication, but the next few weeks are going to be really tight.
Not to mention my bank account just recovered from the LAST TIME...but still, I'd rather be bankrupt with a Darcy than to have some money and no Darcy.
