So!
Finished The Alicorn Job, if about a day later than I'd planned. Probably didn't help that I went into it with no real idea of what I was going to do with it besides "Sunset and Twilight do crime!" Funnily enough, I almost wrote Trixie into it, but I wasn't quiiiiite sure what to do with her (past the fact that someone who knew slight of hand and was good with smoke bombs might come in handy). Maybe next time, if I decide to write a sequel called Octavia's Eleven or something!
It's also kind of funny, as a couple of people have asked me about the Dazzlings ... who again, are characters I have no freaking clue what to do with. I mean, they just come off as a bit one-note- "okay we're going to try to take over Canterlot High but oh no the heroes beat us so we will never show up again." And ... well, if I were more ambitious, I might be able to figure out an interesting angle to take with her. But really, Sunset has the whole "reformed villain" thing covered pretty well (plus, she has better hair). I suppose I could use them as antagonists (and ... well, now some vague ideas are coming to mind), but that'll have to wait.
See, it's November, which means I'm gonna have another go (and probably fail at) NaNoWriMo! I even got a late start, as I spent a good chunk of yesterday rolling around and lamenting the fact I had no clue of what to write. But, despite that, I've decided to take a late start and started working this morning ... thus far I'm about 1600 words in, so, uh, progress? I'm going back to a setting I've been working on (to little success) for a couple of weeks now-- it's a weird mashup, influenced by everything from FFVI to Shaw Bros movies to Space Opera. The only problem is figuring out a PLOT to go with all of this ... so we'll see.
So yeah. Expect to see some post lamenting the faaaaaailure in a few weeks. It just seems like a lot of the time when I'm working on something, the "this is bullshit!" fairy rolls around around 10k words and I get disheartened or something. Well that, and I realize that I'm lacking in fundamental building blocks like, say, a plot.
Or heck, maybe this is the year I'll have my shit together and actually finish! Who knows.
You can finish, Tumbleweed! Believe in me who believes in you!
