This blog post is completely random and pointless and just out of curiosity, so please don't take it personally. It's totally cool and I'm obviously not going to care or hold it against you if like Pony Music/dubstep in general.
Lately I've had a couple of conversations with people on this site about music tastes, and they, like many others I've seen here, seem to adore Pony music (which tends to be of the dubstep variety).
That obviously makes perfect sense since this is a pony website full of bronies after all.
However, I personally strongly dislike dubstep and techno and that sort of music popular these days, which is what most pony music tends to be... I can honestly say I don't know one pony artist off the top of my head. The MLP songs sound best to me in their original, non-remixed forms in the episodes. I like them because they tend to be more like the older stuff, where they use some instruments and the songs actually have strong meaning, unlike most popular music today.
Some stuff that isn't dubstep like pony rock is Okay I guess, but I still just... no.
I enjoy listening to older music from the 60s (to name a few: the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Tommy James & The Shondells, and Neil Diamond), 70s (like The Eagles, Steve Miller, America, Three Dog Night, Fleetwood Mac, and Jim Croce, as well as even some Disco music like The Brothers Johnson, the Bee Gees, and even some KC & The Sunshine Band and Donna Summer), and 80s (A lot of rock such as Foreigner, Journey, REO Speedwagon, and Huey Lewis & News, as well as synthpop/new wave like Hall & Oates, George Michael, Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, and Pet Shop Boys). These are just a few that I like, and I basically know everything there is to know about popular music from these days.
I used to listen to mostly 21st century music, but then a couple years ago I found and increasingly began listening to the old stuff, until it became my music of preference. The quality, in my opinion, is just so much... better. It's not all computers and stuff, it's real songs with people actually singing with feeling. I find most music today to be... depressing. Not all, there are definitely exceptions, but most.
I know I sound like an old Beatles fanatic ranting about "kids these days", but I'm actually just an 18 year-old college freshman. Yeah, call me lame and whatever, but I'm genuinely curious. Is there anyone else here, like me, who enjoys older music? Doesn't like dubstep? I'm sure there are some, but I feel like they're few and far between.
Just curious. If anyone does, I'd love to see whatever oldies bands/groups you enjoy listening to. 
Once again, please disregard this blog post if you enjoy whatever I've criticized here. I understand people have different tastes in music, and I definitely respect that.

Yeah whenever I listen to the older stuff, I almost feel like I was apart of it... when I was born in 1993
I wish I could've lived during Beatlemania, the Disco era, the synthpop era, really anytime between 1960-1990. I can honestly say I'd much rather listen to an early 60s bubblegum-pop Beach Boys song (I actually like the Beach Boys a lot too) than a pony or any type of dubstep song.
Once again, I think we might be twins or something, cuz you're fucking awesome.
Everyone is entitled to listen to what they want. I personally like pretty much a bit of everything. I mean I hate R+B, but some where in my music
you will find R+B!! And there isn't anything wrong with liking the older stuff, I've got a bit of Black Sabbath somewhere as well!!
Now on to the issue at hand. I have heard quite a bit of Pony music, and like you same, most of it is Dubstep/techno, but there are some
that do other styles as well. For example Eurobeat Brony remixes the songs to a more techno style, but then he also has a couple that are
not what I'd call techno, such as this:

367881 Yeah, that is certainly better than dubstep and I guess its alright, and the acousticbrony song is what I would definitely call the "cream of the crop" of "pony music". However, in my opinion I believe all pony music is just kinda... eh. Not very original, and almost kind of weird. It's just hard for me personally to listen to and enjoy a hard rock song about ponies and the show

But besides the lyrics, the music in my opinion is definitely in the better category of today's popular music. Some rock like this these days (like Linkin Park) is still alright. It's just the lyrical content of the pony rock songs...
But yeah, I understand and appreciate your point. I believe too that everyone can and should listen to what they like.

And your defo right that it's not very original, mainly being remixes from the show, and I strongly agree with you on your last point as well.
I hate when others are assholes just because you like some they don't and vice versa. If we could just sort of semi-get rid of them (I think
that's what I mean??), then the internet, and possibly the world, could end up being a better place.

You probably weren't wanting comments that just link a bunch of music, but I got the impression that you don't follow the fandom's music scene, which would mean you've only really listened to what people have linked to you or whatever. And no offense to them, but in my experience, most people's tastes suck.
There's plenty of pony-related music that isn't techno or rock, more 'traditional' sounding stuff. It just kind'a gets drowned in the flood of electronic music, lol.

368530 This. I would have linked his whole channel personally. Even though there's a bit of dubstep there too, there is plenty of other good stuff. Even his dubstep is alright in my opinion, and I'm not a fan of the genre at all.
I'd say, perhaps, my taste in music is a bit more diverse. While in the end I prefer classical choral / symphonic music and heavy classic rock, I find it difficult to dismiss computer based music (in particular, chiptunes) because sometimes it is really good.
Having said that, however, I absolutely cannot stand dubstep.

367881 Absolutely. That simple idea of just leaving other people alone when they're not harming you in any way goes a long way. I don't really understand why some people hold grudges. I mean, I think it's similar ideas that could've, I don't know, prevented people like Hitler from starting the worst war the world has ever seen. The world would definitely be a better place if everyone heeded by that idea.

Yeah, Linkin Park is pretty good. Them and Nickelback, in my opinion, are a couple of the best popular bands today.

And 26 isn't old at all lol. In my opinion, one can't truly begin to consider themselves "old" until they're about 40 I'd say.
You're certainly not alone in the guilty pleasure department. I'm an American 18 year old college athlete who plays baseball, and nobody would think I'm somewhat obsessed with and write stories about candy-colored ponies

Yes, you should sing that song all day. It is, in my opinion of course, the best song in the series from probably my second favorite episode. Just imagine the amount of time and effort the music writers/composers for the show put into making that song. The songs are definitely one of many things that truly set MLP:FiM apart from other animated shows in my opinion. This song in particular... it honestly tugs at my heartstrings and almost makes me wanna cry happy tears whenever I listen to it whilst watching the episode.
That's why I don't like the Pony music all that much... the techno/dubstep remixes of songs like this one just completely tarnishes their feeling in my opinion. You lose that... happy innocent joy to it (haha I know I sound so cheesy right now, but that's how I honestly feel
).
Also, I'm just curious. Since you're in the military, have you been to Iraq/Afghanistan or wherever the UK has been involved in? This might be a stupid question, since I'm not too familiar with the British involvement in those places, but I imagine it's probably similar to the United States. Once again, I'm just curious, and if it's too personal of a question, please don't answer. And also once again, I thank you for your military services

I like pretty much any music, except for rap and hip-hop. Classical to dubstep to 80's rock to new age to filmscore to anything else you care to name. :)
As for the show's music, I like most of them, but I'm not as fond of the smile song as everyone else is, and while I like BBBFF in terms of lyric meaning, the song itself annoys me.
