Should I write a sequel to Spot That Changeling? · 2:51pm Nov 2nd, 2016
I'll be honest, I never imagined Spot That Changeling would reach the audience that it has. I hardly put any effort into that story at all, I just started typing, and let the story sort of flow naturally to wherever it seemed to want to go. And it clearly struck a chord with quite a few people. Don't get me wrong, I'm honored and flabbergasted that you guys enjoy my overactive imagination as much as I do. But now that I know you are out there, I kind of feel pressured to give you more of what you like. And I don't know if I can do that. I guess what I'm really trying to figure out is this: was Spot That Changeling lightning in a bottle? Was it the perfect combination of the right idea, the right author, and the right time, and it won't ever happen again? Or could I improve on what came before, and make a new story that captures the spirit of the original while improving on its flaws?
Full disclosure: I've already started writing the sequel, but I don't want to publish it until I get some feedback from the people who read and liked the original. So tell me, should I make a sequel to Spot That Changeling?
Go for it!
I found 'Spot That Changeling' to be a fun and enjoyable read.
So I would give the sequel a chance.
I would love to read a sequel to Spot that Changeling! I'd definitely read!
I mean, while I liked the concept, I don't know where one would expand on it.
Unless I had some juicy
beetsdeets, I can't really make a desicion.I'd enjoy reading a sequel and if you'd like a pre reader I'd be more than up for the task, I'm rather curious as to how you'd expand it.
BUCK YES!
Of course
On the one hand, the story feels complete as-is. While a sequel would be fun, it's not currently lacking for one.
On the other, I do think it's feasible to make a sequel that's just as good: the concept of ponies playing party mindgames could be extended in all sorts of directions for more fun. So if you do make a sequel, it definitely could work. If you make it, I'll definitely read it.
I think it's really fun to read about the main 6 playing different games, so maybe you could have them do a different game in the sequel, like monopony or risk
I would read that; I liked how well you knew the characters and how believable their interactions were. The story does feel closed and I don't think a sequel is needed, but if you already have an idea and it's partially written, then you clearly found somewhere to go with it. I think you could put it out there, for sure.
Can the story be improved on? No idea.
Am I eager to see whatever you make following this story? Absolutely.
It's not so much I want to see the same idea again (though that would certainly be entertaining) as I want to see more of this world.
I'd read it. But be aware that sequels almost never get as much attention as the original story did.
Ooooooh hell yes.
I think the key decision point is do you actually have a solid idea for a sequel that you want to post?
If the answer is yes then go for it.
If the answer is no then don't.
Trying to force a story out of some sense of obligation to "the fans," always ends badly.
4282171 A good part of the reason being, that fimfiction doesn't notify readers of sequels anymore...
I guess the bookshelf-system introduced back in '14 was incompatible with sequel-notifications somehow.
So many authors never think to post a blog entry tagged with the old story. As a reader, it's quite irritating to miss out on a sequel, and the author is disappointed for not receiving as much feedback.
Ah well.
As for a sequel - yeah, sure!
What's the general outline?
Impersonating ponies other than the mane 6? Playing the impersonation game with new rules, or in a different environment? Thorax playing pranks with Rainbow Dash? Or dealing with the season 6 aftermath?
i would love more of that story, only if you want to make it though.

The idea was to get a new cast of players to play the same game. I was even going to include Thorax as an honest player, and use an OC as the infiltrator instead. But I don't think a sequel is going to be worth the effort if it's just more of the same thing again.
Maybe I should follow cheesegal's advice instead, and set up a new game for the ponies to play?
I would read it, as long as there are different ponies and/or the rules were expanded. Of course, I loved it. Being able to try and guess along with Twilight was fun. So, if you have a new idea, then go for it! Just make sure it is actually a good idea. I would read a "spot that Changeling" sequel if it was the same idea, just expanded. I feel like any other game would be hard to do. Seeing as it's usually boring to watch someone play a game. I think it would be better to do the same kind of thing. However, if you have an idea for something somewhat different, go for it! I will most definitely read it! And will try and help as well!
o_o yes
A sequel sounds fun, but maybe add something new to spice it up a little. Like a few new players, or maybe have Discord sneak in and transform into somepony else at the same time to trick everypony.

That would be a good idea and I would certainly read it however you need to remember that not everyone likes similar things so try and branch out with this concept
However as stated above I would love to see how you would expand upon this world
I look for the reading the sequel regardless
