Underapreciated Fanfics? · 3:22pm Sep 17th, 2012
So I really kind of hate it when authors try to make excuses for why they haven't written anything in a long time, but I always appreciate it, too, because it at least tells you the author hasn't gotten married or found Jesus or something and given up on fanfiction entirely. It's just considered polite to occasionally let people know you're not dead, and that you are working on your multichapter epic about lesbian horses. So I'm going to be polite and tell you all that I'm not dead, and I am working on my story about lesbian horses.
Unfortunately, there is a member of my family who is no longer with us, and that has made it very difficult to write fanfiction lately, though reading some cute horse stories has helped immensely with the bad feelings. I'm hoping I'll be able to get back in the saddle shortly.
In the meantime, I've been alerted to the existence of this group for cool fanfics that don't get a lot of views. You'll notice my fanfics are not there, because they're not that cool and get entirely too many views. Give some of these stories a whirl, maybe tell a lonely author you liked his horses, and I'll get back to writing once the funeral arrangements are done playing merry hell with my schedule.
Keep calm and pony on.
That was a pretty insightful update.
I do wish you and your family's well being in regard to the loss.
Condolences
sorry to hear about your family losing a member.
you weren't really in danger of being declared dead, but it's nice to hear from you regardless
Thanks for showing me that group, though I probably shouldn't start reading quite yet, lest I find another reason to procrastinate further on my first fic.
I'm sorry for your loss, you have my condolences. But at least you still have the magic of ponies to cheer you up. They're like alcohol and drugs, except they're less likely to kill you.
Sorry to hear that, friend; it's always sad when you lose a family member. Don't worry about us, though — we'll all be absolutely fine. You just focus on yourself. Hate to be intrusive, but if you need a talk or anything, you can always message me.
LOLed while reading first paragraph. Then I went glum:.. sorry to hear that. Gotta move on though, wether we like too or not. Aint no other reasonable alternative. Lifes a bitch sometimes. Hope you get better and I hope you keep writing. Not that I'd demand you do the latter be4 the former though. Take yer time, maintaining the writer is a requicite to get the writing, any reader with any sence of decency should know that.
Oh! And thank you for sharing. I absolutely agree with you that dropping a hint to your readers that and (if you like) why, your postponing your writing is the decent thing to do. I find myself admiring you for more reasons than your writing now. Anywhoo I like your stories thanks etcetc...
Actually: when I first started browsing/reading on this site, one of the first things I did was click the "show mature" box. Not because I was intrigued by clop but because I was afraid I'd miss any great fics because of prejudice. My first encounters with mature content was stumbling upon works by TAW and Twilightclopple through the featurebox and because of that and some others, (but mostly those 2 though) works I repeatedly regretted that decision. The Estrus fic of yours made me see the light though and since that I've never regretted my initial decicion. Thank you yet again and I apologise for smacking you with this wall of text dravel. Peace.
I know how that feels. My condolences.
I am sorry to hear about that, loosing someone you care about is never fun.
Of course, on the flip side I am interested in that group because it is always hard to find really good new material so I will have to check it out.
Man, all my good stories have over 500 views.
Sorry about your family member... I lost mine 2 months ago. I find the best way to deal with it is to just not think about it at all.
Ponies! there ponies! lesbian ponies! horses? lol, kidding! glad your not dead and umm.... sorry for the loss!
And here I thought you didn't want to clog up the feature box or was found by a hoard of 'lessers' and shipped away in a crate to some unknown point in the Galapagos or something.
Sorry for your loss. Glad to read you're doing better!
Also, damn, you have a way with words as you had me rolling at "because it lets you know they haven't gotten married or discovered Jesus". Glad to hear from you again F.U. and hope to see you well again and writing!
Ok I won't be abbreviating that name again lol
My sympathies and I wish you and your family the best of luck coping with your loss. *Gives pony hugs* Group looks very cool too.
Best wishes for you and yours. I'm sorry I can't offer more than that.
I feel for ya, man. I've lost the the same thing in the past.
The storm may seem thick, unrelenting and endless, Brony, but it will clear eventually. Fight the winds and battle the rain until you get your sun back. We're behind ya every step of the way.
sorry for your loss. Hope you start cheering up and take your time, you deserve it.
My condolences good sir.
Updates! Take your time, real life happens, we all know. And thanks for tossing that group this way, might be some gems there, after all, not all of us can be Rarity and find gems that easily.
My fic has... Checking... 218 unique views, but because of the multichapter thing, it has 800+ normal views. Wait... 5 chapters, 800 views, 218 viewers... Yay, most people who read it read the whole thing thus far! I didn't lose them! 80% ain't bad! dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/misc_Lyra2.png
The problem with long chapter-based works is people don't give thumbs, which makes it fade into obscurity instead of being featured, until they hit about 25k words, it seems. The other problem is total views jacks up the viewcount, so it looks like only 1.5% of my readership reviews it, instead of a healthier 5%. It also excludes me from joining fun groups like that one, oh well. dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/shrug_Twilight_Sparkle.png
Sorry for your loss.
My most-viewed fic has 871 views for its most popular chapter and 8,547 views across all 22 chapters. So, does that mean that half of my initial viewers leave? I suck at judging from statistics.
>found Jesus
*acquired delusions
Heh. That group's criteria are a little strict.
To be accepted, the stories must fit within a set criteria:
-Less than 500 total views.
-Author: Less than 100 watchers.
-Must be relatively unknown.
-Must be of above-average quality
The only underrated gem I want to submit is within all criteria (the author only had watchers) but too many total views (800).
Too bad.
Anyway. I'll just hype it here. In the Twahlaht of her Youth is an amazing fic that everyone should read.
And may the light of little ponies ease the weight of loss.
My sympathies are with you.
Thanks for supporting the little guys. Sorry to hear about your loss.
If you want help with anything let me know.
Oh, that's totally my group. Nifty!
