Sunset Rambles #2: Why is badassery so hard to find in ABDL fiction anyways? · 5:28pm Sep 15th, 2016

I always found it weirdly amazing when people said “you can’t make a character in diapers be badass”. It’s a weird sentiment, because, for me, the attire isn’t all that important when it comes to badassery. Take One Piece’s Senor Pink, who is a grown man wearing diapers and a bonnet, and is probably one of the most badass characters this series has produced.

What makes a badass isn’t how they dress themselves, but how they carry themselves and what they do. In the same vein, you could regress a character and make them a badass because of it. I’ve read ABDL fiction where a normal person got way more awesome once they were regressed.

In French Whines by CS Fox an american tourist in his twenties drinks some wine in france, then becomes a fourteen year old girl and has to figure out what happened. She and the friends she makes go up against criminals, who use weapons, and win. Sure, our main character is forced to be diapered throughout the entirety of the story and is even sent to be a kindergartner at one point, but that doesn’t deteriorate they accomplishments.

The reason why badassery so often doesn’t appear to work in fiction with this specific niche of fetish is because we expect things to get cute, cuddly, embarrassing. We expect the characters to be shy, to be passive, to be forced into a position. We expect them to cope badly with things,to have someone else arise and take control. That’s just the AB part. And even a DL might find some enjoyment in the more BDSM-y aspects of the stories. Or they just go for straight erotica, which is its own beast, really. The point remains, we don’t read fetish fiction for the experience of a badassery or to witness extraordinary character growth.

Or at least we don’t expect to read about it and thus dismiss it entirely. The majority of diaper pony fiction on this site is about regression. Not just any, but specifically to the age of a foal. It’s all about how funny and cute foals are, how other characters have to deal with those adorable little twerps and the hell that follows them. Some stories go further than that. Some involve a mystery of sorts, a problem in need to be solved, just some plot to hold onto. Even in those stories, the most drama we get is ponies learning to deal with how awesome a fetish can be and that you just need to accept and be yourself.

I’m not dismissing these stories, I’m just saying, the materials often presented don’t mix well with what we define as badassery. What dangers do the characters face? What obstacles do they overcome? Can we look up to them and say: “Wow”? Hardly ever, because that’s not the point. If there is a lesson, it’s about, as I just wrote, acceptance.

I think that creating a character that goes against impossible odds while looking good is possible, even when working with pacifiers, diapers, incontinence and mental regression. It might even be possible with a character who enjoys these things, as long as the story goes beyond that, beyond letting the character accept the situation. It’s possible that if we write a story that is about more than just the object of interest, we could also allow the characters to break free from the boundaries we put on them. It might even just create a more diverse pool of stories.

Either way, what’re your thoughts on that, or anything for that matter. Do you ever have random thoughts about fetish fics or do you just enjoy them for what they are? I’d really like to know. :D

Being an unstable kettle, I tend to have weird thoughts about fetishes like thiso ne, yes.

Anyways... while I do agree it would create a larger pool of stories, you wouldn't appeal to many people, really. Non-ABDL will find it weird, most ABDL likely would be put off by the idea, so you'd get a very small readership.

4210984 I completely agree. After all, there's a reason we have some semblance of a mainstream whenever people consume or do something, be it with media, food or even in the games we play. I just find it weird when people outright dismiss the possibility that something different will be mainstream. I've seen people do that, say that, because a story featured something they didn't expect, it would, automatically, "not work."

I had no idea that one story even existed... interesting. And I think it's because many AB/ DLs fantasize about specific things they wish to happen to them in real life. Maybe what bothers you is most stories don't have a real plot with actual conflict?

Hmm interesting thought really. I think I can only think of one pony fic that gets into any real sort of adventure where the diaper and regression are not driving the story at that point. The only one that came to mind there is kisses and crinkles cheaper 3+.

I have read some abdl stories that have no problem not focusing in the diaper and instead telling a adventure or well developed story instead. I think there are two reasons we don't see much in the way of adventure stories in this community because most of these writers submitting are newer or just writing for a fap.

If you elwere to write a longer store where diapers are only a small segment and still be interesting to the padded ponies group how would you go about it?

4211349 It doesn't really bother me anymore. I mean, if I want something different written, I'll just write something "different". It worked out with MBS after all.

The reality escapism is a huge part, you're right. The majority of my favs happened because of that and I also want to write some stories with that in mind. Good point you mentioned there. xD

4211973 I think they'll always be a point in a story. It'd be weird for a story to mention a non-foal character to wear diapers, be it for medical or personal reasons, but not do anything with it. I always try to weave these sort of characters into a larger story and some of my favorite non-pony authors, like CS Fox, do that sort of thing quite often. I even read one story about a CIA agent busting a pedophile ring and going undercover in a group of ABDLs for that.

As for the "newer" part, I assume you mean new to writing. And yeah, people go for standard stuff in the early game, it gives you an audience and gives you enough of a safety so you won't mess up the story too bad. In a way, that's a good thing, but the site gets flooded with same-y fics. As for the whole fapping business. I've read good fap fics, but you can see a difference between those that are written while wanking off is happening and those who intend to make their readers have a good ol' wank.

And if I were to write a story like that? It wouldn't be a fetish fic, honestly. Make a major character incontinent, but don't go into too much detail about it. If I would write a fetish fic, there would always be some focus on the diapers, because that's what people came for. I like to think My Baby Sister is a good example here. It prominently features diapers, wet and messy, age regression, multiple characters wearing, but the focus is more on the setting and the survival horror aspect of the plot. Might just be me being an arrogant prick, tho. :trollestia:

Honestly, I enjoy them for what they are. I like diapers and I think diapers are cute. Cute and badass don't necessarily mesh well. I'd love to see a story about a diapered character that's also a total badass, because that sounds really interesting, but nobody does it. (I'm guilty of not doing it as well) but I just feel like when I read a diaper fic, I come for the cuteness, not because I'm expecting badass characters kicking ass and taking names.
